Jan. 5, 2021: Barbara Brackenridge, known as Bobbie, died peacefully in her sleep on 12/30/21 at the age of 87. Bobbie was known for her fierce intelligence and brutal honesty, which were both disarming and delightful. With her husband, Bruce, Bobbie treasured travel and living abroad, including raising her family over 10 years in England and Germany, and renovating an old farmhouse in France in her later years. After graduating from Wellesley College, Bobbie was awarded a Fulbright scholarship to study in Paris and worked at the French Cultural Services in New York. Bobbie maintained her French and German language fluency throughout her life.
In addition to her international interests, Bobbie was an eager tennis player, avid reader, animal portraitist and art lover. For many winters, up until she was in her early 70’s, she could be found chasing Bruce down ski hills regardless of the weather. She was also a committed volunteer, including more than fifteen years as a board member and tutor at the Elmendorf Opportunity Center and as an organizer of the annual Planned Parenthood Auction.
Bobbie is survived by her three children and seven grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to CURE Epilepsy (www.cureepilepsy.org).
