Twenty-five Families Receive Thanksgiving Day Baskets from Senior Citizens Council

Dec. 6, 2017: The Senior Citizens Council ("SCC") started the season of giving with distributing its annual Thanksgiving baskets through the Eastchester Community Action Partnership ("ECAP").
This year, the council was able to provide 25 baskets to families in the Tuckahoe area.
This tradition started 16 years ago when the then-SCC chairman, Audrey Sullivan, suggested that the council donate turkeys to ECAP.
At that time, the council was holding its monthly meetings upstairs at the ECAP office, and Audrey thought it would be a nice gesture to help Tuckahoe’s food distribution program for families in need.
After several years of donating turkeys, the SCC decided to add the rest of the food for a Thanksgiving dinner and started making up baskets with everything a family would need for the holiday meal.
A group of about ten council members meets at Costco the week before Thanksgiving, and within an hour, they gather all the food and load it up to take back to ECAP to assemble the baskets.
Every family is given a 20-pound turkey, vegetables, stuffing, cranberry sauce, rolls, a pie, and whipped cream, and the baskets are all packed with love.
The director of ECAP, Don Brown, is then responsible for distributing the baskets to the families. The personal donations from SCC board members fund the project.
“I love organizing and providing the Thanksgiving baskets, because, in true Thanksgiving spirit, we are helping less fortunate members of our community," said Lorraine Mohan, who, along with Bumpty McGrath, has been overseeing this project for many years.
The Senior Citizens Council is made up of members from both Tuckahoe and Bronxville who oversee the community centers for older adults in both villages.

Organized in 1982, the Bronxville Beautification Council (BBC) is a not-for-profit organization administered by a volunteer Board of Directors. The mission of the BBC is to enhance and maintain the natural and man-made beauty of the village of Bronxville, with an emphasis on the downtown business district.

Boulder Ledge Garden Club
Founded in 1966, the Boulder Ledge Garden Club is rooted in a mission to inspire a deeper appreciation and love for gardening and flower arranging. The club is dedicated to fostering and promoting interest and knowledge in gardening.
The Club maintains Bronxville’s Bicentennial Park and other civic gardens. In 2019–2020 the club raised $18,000 to replace trees in the village, reflecting its active role in community beautification. It also holds garden therapy projects and educational garden trips for members.

Bronxville Giving Garden
The Bronxville Giving Garden is a community-centered garden that donates organic produce to Eastchester Community Action Partnership in Tuckahoe and Community Service Associates in Mount Vernon. The garden is also a gathering place where school children and volunteers can discover the joy of tending plants and growing food.

Bronxville Green Committee
The Bronxville Green Committee is a volunteer organization that is part of the Village of Bronxville. It proposes and implements environmentally sustainable programs in our community.

Bronxville Boy Scouts
