Five Bronxville Students Serve in Civil Air Patrol

Feb. 13, 2019: Founded in 1941, The Civil Air Patrol (“CAP)” is the official auxiliary of the United States Air Force and part of its “total force,” which consists of the regular Air Force, Air National Guard, Air Force Reserve, and the Air Force retired military and civilian employees.
Five Bronxville students are members of CAP's Westchester Cadet Squadron 1 program: Bronxville freshman Marco Wimmershoff and seventh-graders Alex Chrostowski, Sam Mandanas, Van Villanueva, and Daniel Visconti.
As part of Westchester Cadet Squadron 1, the Bronxville cadets participate in many local community volunteer activities. In fact, Westchester Cadel Squadron 1 is one of the most decorated cadet squadrons, as many cadets are recognized each year with meritorious and quality service awards.
Cadets experience flights on military aircraft at their annual summer leadership encampments.
An example of the squadron's accomplishments is that its cadets were among the first CAP members in the country to earn their commercial drone pilot licenses. The squadron is also one of eleven squadrons in the country allowed by CAP to help the United States Air Force establish guidelines and curricula for use in emergency services and for drone interceptor and aerial security use.
On Friday, February 8, the squadron celebrated a change-in-command ceremony as leadership passed from one squadron commander to another. The ceremony honored outgoing commander Capt. Katherine Torres after five years of service and welcomed incoming commander 1st Lt. Jennifer Moon-Kozlowski.

Ralf Wimmershoff, father of Marco, commented, "This program provides these cadets with invaluable leadership and service experience, which will undoubtedly serve them well throughout their lives."

Bronxville Beautification Council
Organized in 1982, the Bronxville Beautification Council (BBC) is a not-for-profit organization administered by a volunteer Board of Directors. The mission of the BBC is to enhance and maintain the natural and man-made beauty of the village of Bronxville, with an emphasis on the downtown business district.

Boulder Ledge Garden Club
Founded in 1966, the Boulder Ledge Garden Club is rooted in a mission to inspire a deeper appreciation and love for gardening and flower arranging. The club is dedicated to fostering and promoting interest and knowledge in gardening.
The Club maintains Bronxville’s Bicentennial Park and other civic gardens. In 2019–2020 the club raised $18,000 to replace trees in the village, reflecting its active role in community beautification. It also holds garden therapy projects and educational garden trips for members.

Bronxville Giving Garden
The Bronxville Giving Garden is a community-centered garden that donates organic produce to Eastchester Community Action Partnership in Tuckahoe and Community Service Associates in Mount Vernon. The garden is also a gathering place where school children and volunteers can discover the joy of tending plants and growing food.

Bronxville Green Committee
The Bronxville Green Committee is a volunteer organization that is part of the Village of Bronxville. It proposes and implements environmentally sustainable programs in our community.

Bronxville Boy Scouts
The village of Bronxville has a long tradition of scouting. “The troops and packs of Bronxville have maintained the finest scouting organizations and have taught the boys of the Bronxville area to be leaders and outstanding members of the local, national and global communities.”
