The Community Fund Distributes $120,000 to Local Organizations

Jun. 10, 2020: The Community Fund of Bronxville, Eastchester, and Tuckahoe today announced the first round of grants from its newly formed Covid-19 Relief Fund.
The fund distributed $120,000 to local organizations supporting the people hardest hit by the pandemic in Bronxville, Tuckahoe, Eastchester, Mt. Vernon, and Yonkers.
"The organization felt a pressing need to support local agencies that are providing food, medical care, and shelter among other basic services to those disproportionately affected by the Coronavirus (COVID-19)," said Amy Korb, Executive Director of the Community Fund. "With this unique fund, we were able to open our service area to our neighbors in Mt. Vernon and Yonkers, offering meaningful support to those that need it most."
"Groundwork Hudson Valley is grateful to the Community Fund for being the first to support our effort to reposition the Science Barge as a growing center to assist increasingly food insecure residents in our community", says Brigitte Griswold, Executive Director of Groundwork Hudson Valley. "Together, we will ensure that local women who rely on the YWCA for food and shelter receive fresh, organic, pesticide-free produce that is increasingly difficult to access."
The Following organizations were granted funds:
-Groundwork Hudson Valley – funding to repurpose their educational Science Barge on the Yonkers waterfront to grow 2 to 3 acres of hard-to-find organic produce for local homeless women and a food pantry
-Aisling Irish Community Center – funding to support meals, groceries, and mental health services for their neediest members
-Westhab – funding to the largest provider of housing and supportive services for low-income families and the homeless in Westchester County for PPE (personal protective equipment) for the housing programs and shelters they run in Mount Vernon and Yonkers
-Women's Enterprise Development Council – funding for technology to support Spanish speaking women and minority small business owners transitioning to serving clients online
-Andrus – funding to support the newly inaugurated Andrus Family Fund, which provides emergency aid to children and their families in times of crisis through carefully vetted disbursements
-Bundles of Joy – funding for diapers, formula, wipes, and toiletries for low-income/homeless families of children birth to age five through food pantries, social service agencies, homeless shelters, and hospitals
-Legal Services of the Hudson Valley – funding for a technology upgrade to support remote working for their attorneys/paralegals who provide free legal services (e.g., domestic violence, eviction/foreclosure, unemployment issues) to the neediest in our community
-Westchester Jewish Community Services – funding to one of the largest mental health and human services agencies in Westchester for PPE (personal protective equipment) for five of their group homes for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities
-Eastchester Volunteer Ambulance Corp- funding to help purchase disinfectant machines for vehicles.
-Tuckahoe Police Department- funding to purchase meals from local restaurants to be delivered to local seniors by the Tuckahoe Police Department.

Boulder Ledge Garden Club
Founded in 1966, the Boulder Ledge Garden Club is rooted in a mission to inspire a deeper appreciation and love for gardening and flower arranging. The club is dedicated to fostering and promoting interest and knowledge in gardening.
The Club maintains Bronxville’s Bicentennial Park and other civic gardens. In 2019–2020 the club raised $18,000 to replace trees in the village, reflecting its active role in community beautification. It also holds garden therapy projects and educational garden trips for members.

Bronxville Giving Garden
The Bronxville Giving Garden is a community-centered garden that donates organic produce to Eastchester Community Action Partnership in Tuckahoe and Community Service Associates in Mount Vernon. The garden is also a gathering place where school children and volunteers can discover the joy of tending plants and growing food.

Bronxville Green Committee
The Bronxville Green Committee is a volunteer organization that is part of the Village of Bronxville. It proposes and implements environmentally sustainable programs in our community.

Bronxville Boy Scouts
The village of Bronxville has a long tradition of scouting. “The troops and packs of Bronxville have maintained the finest scouting organizations and have taught the boys of the Bronxville area to be leaders and outstanding members of the local, national and global communities.”
