Letter to the Community: Mayor Marvin and Trustee & Deputy Mayor Bob Underhill Ask For Your Support in Upcoming March Election

Feb 12, 2025

To our Fellow Residents:

In March the two of us will be standing for reelection as Mayor and Trustee, bringing 50 years of combined service and experience in Bronxville Village government to the ongoing work of the Trustees. We humbly believe that our backgrounds in law, commercial real estate, and finance have proven to be invaluable as we have navigated the challenges before the Village in the past several decades.

As Mayor and Deputy Mayor we have seen through many projects that have enhanced the quality of life in the Village, including keeping the Village portion of your overall property tax bill at 17 percent while retaining a Aaa bond rating (the best possible for a community of our size); the first Village-wide real estate revaluation in decades; the controlled expansion of NYP Lawrence hospital; the construction of Villa BXV; the creation of an additional parking lot on Parkway Road on land purchased from the AvalonBay Corporation; the flood mitigation project that included the pumping station at the Bronxville School; investment in our parks and open spaces; and much more.

We are very fortunate to work with an incredible team at Village Hall and with board colleagues who share our commitment to Village issues. Additionally, we are extremely proud to have been deeply involved with our police department, which is arguably amongst the finest of any town or village in New York State.

It has been an honor and a privilege to serve you and care for this special community.  We all know that successful local government is about people and places – not political parties.  We ask you to make your decision based on our skills and experience, the judgement we have shown, and our dedication to the Village.

We are eager to continue our work. We ask for your support on March 18th.

Thank you for your consideration,

Mary Marvin – Mayor

Robert Underhill – Deputy Mayor

Bronxville Overview

Bronxville is a quaint village (one square mile) located just 16 miles north of midtown Manhattan (roughly 30 minutes on the train) and has a population of approximately 6,500. It is known as a premier community with an excellent public school (K-12) and easy access to Manhattan. Bronxville offers many amenities including an attractive business district, a hospital (Lawrence Hospital), public paddle and tennis courts, fine dining at local restaurants, two private country clubs and a community library.

While the earliest settlers of Bronxville date back to the first half of the 18th century, the history of the modern suburb of Bronxville began in 1890 when William Van Duzer Lawrence purchased a farm and commissioned the architect, William A. Bates, to design a planned community of houses for well-known artists and professionals that became a thriving art colony. This community, now called Lawrence Park, is listed on the National register of Historic Places and many of the homes still have artists’ studios. A neighborhood association within Lawrence Park called “The Hilltop Association” keeps this heritage alive with art shows and other events for neighbors.

Bronxville offers many charming neighborhoods as well as a variety of living options for residents including single family homes, town houses, cooperatives and condominiums. One of the chief benefits of living in “the village” is that your children can attend the Bronxville School.

The Bronxville postal zone (10708, known as “Bronxville PO”) includes the village of Bronxville as well as the Chester Heights section of Eastchester, parts of Tuckahoe and the Lawrence Park West, Cedar Knolls, Armour Villa and Longvale sections of Yonkers. Many of these areas have their own distinct character. For instance, the Armour Villa section has many historic homes and even has its own newsletter called “The Villa Voice” which reports on neighborhood news.
