From Bronxville Police Blotter
Wednesday, March 18: At 11:05 am a 44-year-old Bronxville resident reported that she believed her cell phone was taken out of her vehicle at 10:00 am while parked on Kraft Avenue. Police officers were able to use the "Find My iPhone" application to track the phone to the area of Park Place and Kraft Avenue. After interviewing patrons in the area, officers located the phone inside Starbucks, where it had been turned in by a customer. The owner of the phone did buy coffee at Starbucks that morning, and the phone was returned to her.
Friday, March 20: At 8:00 am on Parkway Road police officers responded to a complaint of two vehicles which had been vandalized with spray paint overnight. Officers also discovered two other vehicles which had been damaged in two separate driveways. There was no "tag" or wording associated with the painting, just random lines to the rear lights and logos of said vehicles. The incident is being investigated by detectives.
Friday, March 20: At 10:40 am on White Plains Road 22-year-old Mwiza Gondwe of the Bronx, New York, was arrested and charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle in the 2nd Degree (unclassified misdemeanor). Gondwe was stopped by police officer Jason Cooper for an expired inspection sticker, and a subsequent inquiry of his driver license revealed that he had three active suspensions for failure to answer summonses in Albany County. The 2001 Audi he was operating was impounded. Gondwe was released on $100 bail and ordered to appear before the Bronxville Justice Court on April 1, 2015.
Saturday, March 21: At 5:07 pm officers responded to a report of damage to storage unit locks at 25 Sagamore Road. Officers confirmed that several locks appeared to have been tampered with at the location, but attempts to enter the storage units appeared to be futile and nothing was reported missing.
Bronxville is a quaint village (one square mile) located just 16 miles north of midtown Manhattan (roughly 30 minutes on the train) and has a population of approximately 6,500. It is known as a premier community with an excellent public school (K-12) and easy access to Manhattan. Bronxville offers many amenities including an attractive business district, a hospital (Lawrence Hospital), public paddle and tennis courts, fine dining at local restaurants, two private country clubs and a community library.
While the earliest settlers of Bronxville date back to the first half of the 18th century, the history of the modern suburb of Bronxville began in 1890 when William Van Duzer Lawrence purchased a farm and commissioned the architect, William A. Bates, to design a planned community of houses for well-known artists and professionals that became a thriving art colony. This community, now called Lawrence Park, is listed on the National register of Historic Places and many of the homes still have artists’ studios. A neighborhood association within Lawrence Park called “The Hilltop Association” keeps this heritage alive with art shows and other events for neighbors.
Bronxville offers many charming neighborhoods as well as a variety of living options for residents including single family homes, town houses, cooperatives and condominiums. One of the chief benefits of living in “the village” is that your children can attend the Bronxville School.
The Bronxville postal zone (10708, known as “Bronxville PO”) includes the village of Bronxville as well as the Chester Heights section of Eastchester, parts of Tuckahoe and the Lawrence Park West, Cedar Knolls, Armour Villa and Longvale sections of Yonkers. Many of these areas have their own distinct character. For instance, the Armour Villa section has many historic homes and even has its own newsletter called “The Villa Voice” which reports on neighborhood news.
