Thursday, September 10, 8:26 am, Fordal Road: A homeowner reported approximately $47,000 in miscellaneous jewelry missing from the homeowner's residence. The property was last seen in late July. The incident is currently under investigation.
Thursday, September 10, 11:25 am, 77 Pondfield Road: A doctor reported that blank prescriptions had been stolen from his office and forged to obtain Xanax. One of the prescriptions may have resulted in ingestion of a non-lethal overdose by a person who was transported to NYP/Lawrence Hospital for care.
Thursday, September 10, 2:33 pm, Sussex Avenue: A motor vehicle operated by a 16-year-old female struck a tree causing the airbags to deploy. The driver was not in need of medical attention, and the vehicle was towed from the scene. Driver error appeared to be the cause of the accident.
Friday, September 11, 10:31 pm, Bolton Gardens: An anonymous caller reported a large group of youths congregating. The incident was unfounded.
Saturday, September 12, 9:30 am, Paxton Avenue: A parked/unoccupied vehicle was struck by an unknown vehicle that left the scene causing damage to the rear driver's side panel and bumper.
Saturday, September 12, 10:14 pm, Park Avenue: A female resident reported that a male may have been hiding near the bushes outside her home. Officers interviewed the male, who turned out to be another resident walking his dog.
Sunday, September 13, 10:49 am, White Plains Road: A motor vehicle was struck by a white van while traveling southbound on White Plains Road. The van left the scene without stopping. No injuries were reported. The incident is under investigation.
Sunday, September 13, 6:53 pm, Stone Place: Officers responded to a report of two dogs left in a vehicle. The officers determined that the weather conditions were acceptable and that the vehicle had been left in a responsible condition; therefore, no police intervention was necessary.
Monday, September 14, 3:03 am: A 14-year-old Mount Vernon resident was taken into custody and later released to his father pending investigation after he was found to be in possession of stolen property, including several GPSs and loose change. The youth, who was believed to be accompanied by two other juveniles, was also observed in the area of Parkway Road just before a 2012 Lincoln was stolen from a driveway. The vehicle was recovered on the opposite end of Parkway Road.
Monday, September 14, 11:43 pm, Concordia College: Police officers assisted the Eastchester Fire Department with an activated fire alarm. The cause of the alarm was determined by Captain Ferrara to be a malfunction.
Bronxville is a quaint village (one square mile) located just 16 miles north of midtown Manhattan (roughly 30 minutes on the train) and has a population of approximately 6,500. It is known as a premier community with an excellent public school (K-12) and easy access to Manhattan. Bronxville offers many amenities including an attractive business district, a hospital (Lawrence Hospital), public paddle and tennis courts, fine dining at local restaurants, two private country clubs and a community library.
While the earliest settlers of Bronxville date back to the first half of the 18th century, the history of the modern suburb of Bronxville began in 1890 when William Van Duzer Lawrence purchased a farm and commissioned the architect, William A. Bates, to design a planned community of houses for well-known artists and professionals that became a thriving art colony. This community, now called Lawrence Park, is listed on the National register of Historic Places and many of the homes still have artists’ studios. A neighborhood association within Lawrence Park called “The Hilltop Association” keeps this heritage alive with art shows and other events for neighbors.
Bronxville offers many charming neighborhoods as well as a variety of living options for residents including single family homes, town houses, cooperatives and condominiums. One of the chief benefits of living in “the village” is that your children can attend the Bronxville School.
The Bronxville postal zone (10708, known as “Bronxville PO”) includes the village of Bronxville as well as the Chester Heights section of Eastchester, parts of Tuckahoe and the Lawrence Park West, Cedar Knolls, Armour Villa and Longvale sections of Yonkers. Many of these areas have their own distinct character. For instance, the Armour Villa section has many historic homes and even has its own newsletter called “The Villa Voice” which reports on neighborhood news.
