Memorial Day Weekend Events in Bronxville and Eastchester May 23 to May 28, 2018

May 14, 2018: Memorial Day weekend in Bronxville is always one of the most fun weekends of the year. Below are Memorial Day events sponsored by the Bronxville School PTA, the Village of Bronxville, and the Town of Eastchester.
Memorial Day Week Events at The Bronxville School
Come join us for the Bronxville PTA's Memorial Day Country Fair on Friday, May 25, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on the front lawn of The Bronxville School.
This year's Country Fair and Food Fairway, chaired by Mariana Mingo, will feature a petting zoo and bungee jumping. And don’t miss the national anthem performed by a special guest. Additional attractions include rock climbing, rides, carnival games and prizes, inflatable obstacle courses, and bounce houses. Come for dinner and enjoy a bite from Gyro Truck, Walter's Hot Dogs, Kona Ice, The Pizza Truck Co., our local juice bar Root & Vine, and more.
Also back this year is our very popular bake-off competition, chaired by Brigid Garelik. Does everybody say that you make the best cookies? Or pies? Or cakes? Time to prove them right! Winners selected in three categories (best pie, cake, cookie/brownie) will then compete for the coveted blue ribbon and bragging rights for a year. The three judges for this competition are PTA president Kelly Conners, Nugmeg owner Cindy Bothwell, and Bronxville School superintendent Dr. Roy Montesano.
Country Fair bracelets are available online now at bronxvillepta.org. You can also check the Bronco Beat for a link to purchase bracelets directly. Pre-sale bracelets are $20. Bracelets purchased at the door will be $25. Bracelets are for children ages 3-15 and for all you can ride. Pre-sale bracelets can be purchased at the school (Meadow Avenue and the front lawn) on Wednesday and Thursday from 8:00 to 8:30 am and Friday from noon to 4:00 and at the Used Book Sale on Thursday and Friday from 8:30 to 3:00 pm and on Saturday.
Lawson Meyer is the 2018 Memorial Day logo winner. The logo will be featured on t-shirts available during the apparel sale and country fair. See hours below.

Apparel Sale, chaired by Sarah Pulkkinen: Wednesday, May 23, and Thursday, May 24, from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm and Friday, May 25, from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm on the front lawn.
Used-Book Sale, chaired by Marguerite Montecinos Deppe: Wednesday, May 23 (Teacher Preview Day), from noon to 4:00 pm, Thursday, May 24, from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm, Friday, May 25, from 8:30 am to 6:30 pm during the country fair, and Saturday, May 26, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm in the high school auditorium lobby.
***Drop off your gently used books on Monday and Tuesday, May 21 and 22, at the high school auditorium lobby entrance ONLY (on Pondfield Road/near Meadow Avenue).***
Dollar Raffle Sale, chaired by Heather Scholes: Wednesday, May 23, from 1:30 pm to 3:00 pm, Thursday, May 24, from 2:30 pm to 4:00 pm and Friday, May 25, from 2:30 pm to 8:00 pm at the country fair on the front lawn.
Cupcake Café, chaired by Julie Hamerling and Tara Holbert: Thursday, May 24, from 11:00 am to 2:00 at the Meadow Avenue school entrance and 2:30 pm to 4:00 pm on the front lawn. Friday, May 25, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Meadow Avenue school entrance and 2:30 pm to 8:00 pm on the front lawn during the country fair.

Kids' Dash and Obstacle Course, chaired by Anabella Davis: Saturday, May 26, at 9:30 am on Chambers Field track. Register at bronxvillepta.com.

Memorial Day Events Sponsored by the Village of Bronxville
Memorial Day Parade: Monday, May 28. The annual Memorial Day parade begins sharply at 9:00 am. Those marching in the parade should gather on the west side of town by the train station by 8:45 am. The grand marshal is Mary Westmoreland.
Speech and Commemoration of War Dead: The mayor's speech and commemoration of war dead will be held on the front lawn of The Bronxville School at the end of the parade at around 9:45 am.
Memorial Day Events Sponsored by the Town of Eastchester
Eastchester Tuckahoe Memorial Day Ceremony Commemorating Centennial of World War I: Sunday, May 27. The Eastchester/Tuckahoe Veterans Ceremony Committee will be conducting a ceremonial tribute to veterans at the Eastchester High School auditorium at 7:00 pm. “They gave their tomorrow so we could enjoy our today.” Remember*Respect*Reflect.

Bronxville is a quaint village (one square mile) located just 16 miles north of midtown Manhattan (roughly 30 minutes on the train) and has a population of approximately 6,500. It is known as a premier community with an excellent public school (K-12) and easy access to Manhattan. Bronxville offers many amenities including an attractive business district, a hospital (Lawrence Hospital), public paddle and tennis courts, fine dining at local restaurants, two private country clubs and a community library.
While the earliest settlers of Bronxville date back to the first half of the 18th century, the history of the modern suburb of Bronxville began in 1890 when William Van Duzer Lawrence purchased a farm and commissioned the architect, William A. Bates, to design a planned community of houses for well-known artists and professionals that became a thriving art colony. This community, now called Lawrence Park, is listed on the National register of Historic Places and many of the homes still have artists’ studios. A neighborhood association within Lawrence Park called “The Hilltop Association” keeps this heritage alive with art shows and other events for neighbors.
Bronxville offers many charming neighborhoods as well as a variety of living options for residents including single family homes, town houses, cooperatives and condominiums. One of the chief benefits of living in “the village” is that your children can attend the Bronxville School.
The Bronxville postal zone (10708, known as “Bronxville PO”) includes the village of Bronxville as well as the Chester Heights section of Eastchester, parts of Tuckahoe and the Lawrence Park West, Cedar Knolls, Armour Villa and Longvale sections of Yonkers. Many of these areas have their own distinct character. For instance, the Armour Villa section has many historic homes and even has its own newsletter called “The Villa Voice” which reports on neighborhood news.
