March 12, 2025: The Bronxville Adult School (BAS) opened its annual exhibit of student artwork this past Wednesday at the Bronxville Public Library. Almost 100 people gathered to view the art and mingle with the artists and instructors. Featuring 59 artists and 94 works of art, the show in the library’s Yeager room will run through March 28th during regular library hours. The exhibition was curated by Bronxville Adult School board member Lauren Gautier.

On a beautiful, buzzy March evening many contributing artists brought family and friends to the celebration of art and camaraderie. Also on hand to celebrate their students and exhibit their own work were Ron Ramsey, Scott Dengrove (photography), Wendy Pregiato (decoupage--but also cooking!), Cher Santiago and Ginny Yount.

This year’s exhibit is dedicated to Myles Ryan, a BAS student who took over 20 art classes. Two of his paintings — a watercolor and an acrylic — are featured in the exhibit. According to Ryan’s sister, Meg Ryan Groppo, the Ryan family “were touched and honored by the Bronxville Adult School’s dedication to our beloved Myles. Our family came out to view all the amazing artwork on display including Myles’ paintings. Myles loved taking creative classes at BAS. He had a talent for painting and drawing and the classes enhanced his creativity and artistry. Art became his passion.” Groppo explains that Ryan’s enthusiasm for BAS art classes soon involved the whole family. His niece, daughter, sister and friends all took classes with him. “We all came to love these classes. We are thankful to our amazing teachers Ron Ramsey and Cher Santiago. Myles would have been so grateful for this dedication,” said Groppo.

The Bronxville Adult School offers a wide range of art classes covering such techniques as watercolor, charcoal and botanical drawing. Each semester BAS offers a new mix of classes including multi-week courses and single night classes. The variety of offerings allows students to try new techniques and styles. Classes are extremely popular and usually sell out, with many instructors developing strong followings. One of these instructors is Ginny Yount whose classes Botanical Drawings in Colored Pencil and Nature Journaling are well-represented in the exhibit. One of her students, Yvonne Griffin says, “Ginny is an amazing and generous instructor as you can see from the quality of her student’s work on display. I am proud to be participating in the show along with many of my classmates.

Student work from Cher Santiago’s class, Acrylics on Canvas also has a strong showing in the exhibit. In her second year teaching at BAS, Santiago has already established herself as an inspiring and popular instructor. Santiago, who attended the event with her children, says the show was an opportunity to celebrate the supportive BAS community as well as the artwork. “I came because of the enduring relationships I have built in just a short time. Students were proud to show off their work and spend time with each other on a personal level. BAS provides a welcoming space where your efforts and growth are recognized.”

Other artwork is from several watercolor and charcoal classes taught by the much-loved Ron Ramsey, as well as Annette Meglino’s ever-popular class, Drawing Your Pet.  Work from BAS craft classes is also on display including knitting, decoupage shells and woven baskets.

Bronxville Public Library

Bronxville Public Library

The Bronxville Public Library traces its origins back to 1875, when it was a small lending library housed in a room attached to the “Bronxville Model School.” The Library was officially chartered in 1906 and moved into the Village Hall Building. The needs of the library grew with the town and, in 1942, a new standalone building was erected, which is where the Library is today. Over the years, the Library was renovated and expanded to meet the needs of the community.

The Library has wonderful resources for adults and children and offers a comfortable and relaxing environment. The Library also houses a fine art collection, consisting principally of Bronxville painters and sculptors.

The Library offers special events, art exhibitions, and programs for adults, young adults and children.  All events are open to the public, unless otherwise indicated.
