Jan. 13, 2016: The Friends of the Sarah Lawrence College Library presents its 2016 mini-courses January 13 to 15.
The two three-day mini-courses with Sarah Lawrence professors are: Bond and Beyond, an exploration of the image of the spy in the popular imagination during the 40-year struggle of the Cold War, and The Art of Interpretation, a discussion of how performers of classical music translate the notes on the page into a unique experience for the audience.
Both mini-courses take place in the Marshall Field music building on the campus of the college.
Bond and Beyond will be taught by Jefferson Adams, history professor and the Adda B. Bozeman Chair in International Relations, from 10:00 am to noon. Martin Goldray, Marjorie Leff Miller Faculty Scholar in Music, will present The Art of Interpretation from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
Membership in the Friends of the Library is required. As a special opportunity, half-year membership for the remainder of this academic year is available for $30 per individual and $50 per household of two.
In addition to the mini-courses this semester, Jerrilynn Dodds, art history faculty and former dean of the college, will present "The Arts in Cuba" as the first lecture in the new program Coffee with the Professor. The lecture will be held on Friday, April 8, from 9:30 am to 11:00 am in the Slonim Living Room. Professor Dodds will discuss the Cuban art scene based on impressions from travels and research in Cuba during the past fifteen years.

Bronxville Public Library
The Bronxville Public Library traces its origins back to 1875, when it was a small lending library housed in a room attached to the “Bronxville Model School.” The Library was officially chartered in 1906 and moved into the Village Hall Building. The needs of the library grew with the town and, in 1942, a new standalone building was erected, which is where the Library is today. Over the years, the Library was renovated and expanded to meet the needs of the community.
The Library has wonderful resources for adults and children and offers a comfortable and relaxing environment. The Library also houses a fine art collection, consisting principally of Bronxville painters and sculptors.
The Library offers special events, art exhibitions, and programs for adults, young adults and children. All events are open to the public, unless otherwise indicated.
