Bronxville Village 'Take-Back Day' to Be Held Saturday, November 18, Behind Village Hall

Nov. 8, 2017:  The Bronxville Green Committee will host its semi-annual "take-back day" next week on Saturday, November 18, so it's time to think, "declutter"! 

The event will take place from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, rain or shine, behind Bronxville Village Hall (Palumbo Place).

Members of the Bronxville Green Committee, as well as several DPW staff members, will be on hand volunteering their time to direct and assist you. We will be there rain or shine!

We continue to keep this event a true green event. Everything collected ends up, in one form or another, repurposed.

Entrance:  A large Bronxville Green Committee lawn banner will be placed at the entrance on Friday. On Saturday, you will see our volunteers in front of village hall sporting our signs.  

Enter from the Pondfield Road police station driveway, which is just past village hall off of Pondfield Road. Drive straight through to Palumbo Place and make a right, and you will see our collections stations on either side of the street with signs stating what the collection is for that spot. There will be volunteers and DPW staff to help guide you. Palumbo Place will be closed to traffic coming from Gramatan Avenue during the collection hours. The county paper shredder will be with us. There is a two-box limit per car, and paper items will be accepted only if they are residential waste; commercial drop-offs are not permitted.  

Accepted Items

Furniture:  Furniture Sharehouse is a not-for-profit organization established in 2007 that provides free furniture to economically disadvantaged individuals and families living in Westchester County, giving them the basic household furnishings that enable them to rebuild their lives and live with dignity.

Old linens:  Sheets, towels, and blankets will be collected and brought to the Yonkers Animal Shelter. No other linens, please.

E-Waste:  Electronic devices such as computers, tablets, monitors, cell phones, printers, and televisions will be accepted. Click here to view more items classified "electronic waste" that will be accepted.

Paper documents:  The county mobile shredder will be there for secure, on-site shredding. There is a two-carton limit per car. All paper clips and staples must be removed. Commercial drop-offs are not accepted.

Bronxville Overview

Bronxville is a quaint village (one square mile) located just 16 miles north of midtown Manhattan (roughly 30 minutes on the train) and has a population of approximately 6,500. It is known as a premier community with an excellent public school (K-12) and easy access to Manhattan. Bronxville offers many amenities including an attractive business district, a hospital (Lawrence Hospital), public paddle and tennis courts, fine dining at local restaurants, two private country clubs and a community library.

While the earliest settlers of Bronxville date back to the first half of the 18th century, the history of the modern suburb of Bronxville began in 1890 when William Van Duzer Lawrence purchased a farm and commissioned the architect, William A. Bates, to design a planned community of houses for well-known artists and professionals that became a thriving art colony. This community, now called Lawrence Park, is listed on the National register of Historic Places and many of the homes still have artists’ studios. A neighborhood association within Lawrence Park called “The Hilltop Association” keeps this heritage alive with art shows and other events for neighbors.

Bronxville offers many charming neighborhoods as well as a variety of living options for residents including single family homes, town houses, cooperatives and condominiums. One of the chief benefits of living in “the village” is that your children can attend the Bronxville School.

The Bronxville postal zone (10708, known as “Bronxville PO”) includes the village of Bronxville as well as the Chester Heights section of Eastchester, parts of Tuckahoe and the Lawrence Park West, Cedar Knolls, Armour Villa and Longvale sections of Yonkers. Many of these areas have their own distinct character. For instance, the Armour Villa section has many historic homes and even has its own newsletter called “The Villa Voice” which reports on neighborhood news.
