Letter to the Editor: Betsy Harding, Tom Hutton, and Jeff Minich in Support of Natasha Nordahl for Bronxville Village Justice

To the Editor:
Mar. 7, 2018: We are asking Bronxville residents to join us in voting for Natasha Nordahl for village justice in the village election to be held on March 20. The village is fortunate to have a longtime Bronxville resident with all the right qualifications motivated to serve in this position.
A graduate cum laude of Duke University and of Brooklyn Law School, Natasha moved with her husband to Bronxville in 2002 to bring up their three sons. She has served as a Bronxville School volunteer and as secretary of the Friends of the Bronxville Public Library.
While Natasha’s commitment to Bronxville is clear, we are most impressed by her directly relevant professional experience. She has spent over twenty years in an active litigation practice handling trial work on a daily basis in the New York State courts. She is experienced in conducting mediations and statutory hearings as well as handling depositions, examining witnesses, and arguing motions on behalf of clients. These many years of litigation practice have given her a thorough knowledge of the workings of a well-run courtroom and the basis to serve as an effective justice.
Among Natasha’s many professional qualifications, these stand out:
-
She is a fee dispute arbitrator for the Ninth Judicial District in Part 137
-
She is a member of the Judicial Hearing Officer Advisory Committee for the Second Judicial Department, Ninth District.
These positions show her intimate knowledge of New York courts and the recognition she has been given by her colleagues.
There is also the question of judicial temperament. We believe Natasha’s sympathetic but no-nonsense demeanor is ideally suited for being a judge. She would continue Judge McKinnis’s program for restorative justice in appropriate cases. We also admire her determination that “each person who appears in the village courtroom” should “feel that they have been heard and treated fairly.”
The village election is on March 20 from 6:00 am to 9:00 pm at village hall. We urge our fellow Bronxville residents to elect Natasha Nordahl to be our new village justice.
