High School Prom Held at Beckwith Pointe Beach Club: See Photos of those Attending in Their Tuxes and Smashing Dresses
May 25, 2011: The weather held for the annual Bronxville High School Prom, which took place on Friday, May 20, at the Beckwith Pointe Beach Club from 7:30 pm to 11:00 pm. The boys looked handsome in their freshly pressed tuxedos, and the girls arrived in lovely, understated dresses, some short, some long, and of all the colors in the rainbow.
Parents looked on with pride as they joined their teenagers (who only a few years ago were too young to cross the street alone) at the pre-prom reception on the front lawn of the high school. Accompanied by their parents, the students arrived by 6:00 pm for check-in, picture-taking, and an otherwise jovial time. Sponsored by the High School Parent Council, high school parents Beth Aherne and Kelly Connors along with Nonie Flannery and Barbara Hudson helped coordinate the pre-prom festivities.
The prom itself was thrown by the junior class, a long-standing tradition. Junior class officers and their parent advisor, Karin Kuhns, labored hard to put together a fun evening of dinner and dancing. The care with which the evening was planned could be seen in the lovely invitation designed by Julian Bardin and Alex Hartwell.
At 7:00 pm students boarded coach buses to transport them to the facility at the Beckwith Pointe Beach Club and return to the school by 11:30 pm. Driving to the prom in private vehicles or in limousines was prohibited.
A few weeks before the prom, high school Principal Terry Barton sent a letter to students detailing the "High School Rules" covering the prom. Among them, students wishing to attend the prom had to be in school the whole day of the prom. Students using or possessing alcohol or drugs during the evening would be detained until their parents arrived to pick them up and would be subject to suspension from school. Additionally, students were reminded that they were not to smoke at the dance.
