Bronxville Graduating Class of 2011 Receives Acceptances from 148 Colleges

June 8, 2011: Members of the Bronxville High School Class of 2011 have been accepted to 148 colleges and universities to date, 32 (over 20%) of which are in the top-30 national universities and top-30 national liberal arts colleges as ranked by US News & World Report (2011 edition of Best Colleges in America).
Of the 97-member graduating class, 93 students have reported the colleges from which they have received acceptances. Most of them have also given colleges their notices of whether they accept or decline. Later this month, MyhometownBronxville will report their final selections.
The schools ranked by US News & World Report to be in the top-30 national universities and top-30 national liberal arts colleges (referred to in this article as "top-tier" schools) that have offered acceptances to three or more Bronxville students this year are Northwestern (6), Georgetown (5), Hamilton (4), and 3 each for Carnegie Mellon, Emory, Harvard, USC, and Tufts.
Other top-tier schools offering acceptances include two each from Berkeley, Colby, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, University of Michigan, Middlebury, UPenn, Vassar, UVA, and Wellesley, and one from each of Barnard, Bryn Mawr, Bucknell, UCLA, UChicago, Colgate, Davidson, Duke, Notre Dame, Smith, Wake Forest, Wesleyan, and Yale.
Noticeably missing from the list this year are Amherst, Princeton, Stanford, Swarthmore, and Williams.
"This year Bronxville students, again, fared quite well and had great choices as a result," said Anne Abbatecola, director of guidance. "Our students took the college search process and their applications quite seriously, researched carefully, and applied to schools that were well-suited to their academic and personal preferences and needs." She added, "We wish them continued success as they move on to college."
Abbatecola further stated that some of the students were still finalizing which institutions they will attend. Some are wait-listed, hoping for a spot that might (but might not) open up before fall.
Abbatecola predicts that ultimately 98 percent of this year's graduating seniors will attend college this fall, several taking classes at a community college before transferring to a four-year institution. Others may take a "gap year" to volunteer, travel, or work.
