Bronxville School Foundation Awards $301,000 in Grants to Support School Projects and Programs: See List

June 15, 2011: The Bronxville School Foundation announced the award of 18 grants totaling $301,000 for 2011. All the grants will support programs that benefit children from kindergarten to 12th grade at The Bronxville School.
The request for grants came from teachers, administrators, students, and parents. After careful consideration from the grants committee and the board of directors, grants were awarded to all areas of the school.
"This year's grant awards will enable our teachers to continue to innovate and implement new programs," stated Jennifer Mackesy, vice president of grants. "Every school [elementary, middle, and high school] will benefit from the grants which have been awarded, and they will have a direct impact on our school programs next year."
Stephen Palfrey, chairman of the foundation, added further, "These grants support our mission to focus on pursuing innovative ideas, piloting new programs, and providing state-of-the-art technology that will allow us to enhance the quality of education for our students. We are grateful for the community's support of the foundation, which allows us to invest in initiatives that create a more challenging and enriched environment for our students."
The approved grants for the 2011-2012 school year include:
• Environmental Club Courtyard Project
• SmartMusic Subscriptions for Grades 4-6
• SMART Boards for Grade 1
• Literacy Programs for Middle & High School
• Portable Planetarium System
• Literacy Curriculum Development for Grades K-5
• SMART Boards for Elementary Music
• Science Wall Art Display
• Seniors Return to Yesteryear Project
• Big Belly Solar Trash & Recycling Compactor
• Restoration of the Auditorium Proscenium
• Attendance at National Council of English Teachers
• Announcement Screen for Elementary School
• Health & Wellness Pilot Program for Grades 1&2
• Television Production Equipment for High School
• Books for the Learning Center
• Digital Cameras for Special Education Grades K-5
• iPads & Applications for Special Education Grades K-5
Tracy Lilly, vice president of development, noted that the foundation had another strong year for the community, raising nearly $325,000. "Our community understands the important role the foundation plays in enriching the school's programs and providing a first-rate education for our children. This support is greatly appreciated."
