Memorial Day Carnival to Be Held After All: See Schedule of Memorial Day Events Organized by PTA
By Carol P. Bartold
May 6, 2015: The annual PTA Memorial Day carnival at Hayes Field is on for Monday, May 25, with the same vendors and attractions and on the same scale that Bronxville residents have enjoyed for years.
The original construction timeline for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Midland Valley Drainage Project called for Hayes Field to be a construction site by Memorial Day, but delays in the project have made the field available for the annual carnival.
PTA president Jill Pytosh reported that the group got the go-ahead for the carnival at its March meeting. "It doesn't give us a lot of time," she said. "The first call we made was to the company that provides all the attractions."
"We're doing about eight months of planning in about eight weeks," said Memorial Day chair Katie Delaney, "so we need everybody to step up and pitch in." She added that many of the women who took charge of the various events last year have reprised their roles for 2015.
Fourth-grader Andrew Doyle submitted the winning logo design for 2015. The logo will be featured on t-shirts available for sale during the week leading up to Memorial Day and at the carnival.
Carnival bracelets will go on sale on Sunday, May 17. Check the Bronco Beat on the Bronxville PTA's website for a link to purchase bracelets online. Pre-sale bracelets are priced at $20. Bracelets purchased at the door will be $25.
