Jan. 6, 2016:  Everyone who has visited The Bronxville School's newly renovated auditorium has marveled at its beauty and state-of-the art technical facilities. Lest they be overlooked, a special word about the architects is in store. 

KG&D Architects, PC, based in Mount Kisco, is the architectural firm that undertook and completed the renovation and restoration of The Bronxville School's auditorium. Over its 90-year lifetime, many changes had been made to the auditorium, including a 1960s renovation that covered the windows and closed the original proscenium.

The KG&D team sought to restore the auditorium to its original grandeur while sophisticated upgrades were designed to meet 21st-century standards. 

The multi-use, high-performing theater features new seating configurations, balconies, new theater and HVAC systems, lighting and acoustic enhancements, restoration of the original windows and proscenium, and a new lobby addition.

The KG&D team worked with theater and acoustic specialists to truly transform the space, making it more sophisticated than most high school auditoriums. The cost-effective, energy efficient, and sustainable design improved the overall function, quality, and accessibility of the auditorium and surrounding spaces.

Project details included:

• 1,850-square-foot lobby addition that also serves as an instructional space and provides a direct public entrance.

• New larger chairs and increased spacing for comfort and egress, with a total of 508 seats. 

• Motorized stage rigging, LED theatrical lighting, and integrated audio-visual systems. 

• Energy-efficient HVAC system with air conditioning and updated heating and cooling controls.

• Restoration of the original larger proscenium opening and new stage flooring.

• New auditorium floor layout to provide wheelchair accessibility.

• New wood trim and paneling, coffered ceilings, and bright interior spaces throughout.

• New wrap-around balcony with improved sightlines.

• New catwalks in the attic to access theater lighting.

• New enlarged lighting control room.

• Exterior terrace overlooking the courtyard.

The complete KG&D Architects' project team included Theatre Projects Consultants (theater consultant), Acoustic Dimensions (acoustic consultant), Damiano Barile Engineers (MEP Engineers), and The DiSalvo Engineering Group (Structural Engineer).
