Mar. 23, 2016: Caroline Schetlick, a Bronxville High School senior, was selected by audition to sing at the 2016 American Choral Directors Association Eastern Division Conference, which was held February 10-13 in Boston. The ACDA is a music education organization of over 18,000 members who conduct over one million singers in schools, churches, and communities around the nation.
Schetlick sang with the alto section of the South American Repertoire Honor Choir. The performance took place in Jordan Hall, principal performance space of the New England Conservatory, and included seven pieces in Portuguese, Spanish, Creole, and Quechuan. It was conducted by Dr. Daniel Afonso, Jr., director of vocal and choral studies at California State University, Stanislaus.
This was Schetlick's eleventh honor choir concert, capping a distinguished Bronxville School career in vocal music that includes selection for Elementary All-County, Intermediate All-County, Area All-State, All-State (twice), and All-Nationals choirs, as well as the National Women's Choir of the Organization of American Kodály Educators. A voice student of Edward Reisert's, she is a member of the Kirksingers of The Reformed Church of Bronxville as well as the BHS Chorus and the Select Chorale, both directed by Pamela Simpson.
Simpson praises her student, saying, "It has been such a pleasure to nurture Caroline's exceptional musical talent over the past seven years. Caroline is a dream student. Her comprehensive musicianship allows me to have her work with other students in leading sectionals, mentoring others with sight-reading, and accompanying students on the piano. She accepts any challenge and takes advantage of every choral opportunity that comes her way. Caroline has been accepted into every honor choir for which she has auditioned. I have no doubt that she will be conducting her own choral groups before too long!"
Schetlick has graced the Bronxville School stage in eight different shows, most recently in a poignant portrayal of Fantine in this month's BHS production of Les Misérables. She was presented with BHS's 2015 Wendy Ruhm Memorial Award for excellence in theater arts.
A classically trained pianist, Schetlick has studied since 2001 at the Hoff-Barthelson Music School in Scarsdale, pursuing studies in piano, voice, music theory, and musicianship. She will continue her music studies in college.
