Bronxville Superintendent Compensation Competitive, Near Top of Comparable School Districts

Nov. 30, 2016: Attracting and retaining the best educational leadership is a primary concern in Westchester County school districts. The Bronxville Union Free School District has launched a comprehensive search to replace Superintendent Dr. David Quattrone, who will retire in June of 2017.
According to May 2016 data from the New York State Education Department, Quattrone's compensation package totals $388,526, made up of $293,789 in salary and $94,737 in benefits.
The department defines salary as wages budgeted for the position. Benefits comprise allowances and services provided by school districts and include life, health, unemployment, and workers' compensation insurance; pension plan contributions; and the employer share of Social Security and Medicare.
Quattrone's compensation package ranks second among school districts comparable to Bronxville.
Topping the list, the superintendent of the Scarsdale Free Union School District receives total compensation of $406,602. In addition to a salary of $308,649 and benefits of $53,997, the superintendent receives "other" compensation of $43,956. The New York State Department of Education considers other compensation as the monetary value of any and all forms of compensation not included under salaries and benefits. Other compensation can include housing allowance, moving allowance, professional organization dues or membership fees, and additional insurance or annuities.
Byram Hills Central School District's $345,146 superintendent compensation package is made up of $275,000 in salary, $66,546 in benefits, and $3,600 other.
Rye City School District and Chappaqua Central School District offer superintendents similar total compensation. In Rye, the superintendent earns $253,470 in salary, $67,095 in benefits, and $12,425 in other compensation for a total of $332,990. Chappaqua's $330,912 package is made up of $271,054 in salary, $53,858 in benefits, and $6,000 in other compensation.
Compensation for superintendents in Briarcliff Manor Union Free School District and Edgemont Union Free School District comes in under $330,000. With a salary of $243,600, benefits of $63,438, and other compensation of $12,000, Briarcliff offers a total package of $319,038. In Edgemont the superintendent receives $250,000 in salary, $47,841 in benefits, and $15,122 in other compensation for a total of $312,963.
