Jun. 21, 2017: At the Bronxville Board of Education's June 15 meeting, board president Jeffrey Rohr publicly thanked retiring Superintendent Dr. David Quattrone for his 11 years of service to The Bronxville School. The board's final meeting of the 2016-2017 academic year also marked Quattrone's final meeting as superintendent. He will retire on June 30.
Rohr, speaking on behalf of the board, noted that Quattrone's service has not only adhered to the school's mission to educate students and provide them with the help to build a promising future but has also expanded and enhanced that mission with solid intellectual leadership.
"David was the leader to bring forward The Bronxville Promise, which, I think, sets us apart and helps our students be better prepared for the future," Rohr said. He added that under Quattrone's leadership, the district has hired outstanding teachers, built an outstanding administrative team, and hired three new principals, a director of curriculum and instruction, and a director of technology.
"David has overseen the school's facilities through two one-hundred-year floods, a ceiling collapse, the flood mitigation project, and, of course, the auditorium, our crown jewel," Rohr said. Despite his upcoming retirement, Rohr pointed out, Quattrone has continued to be fully involved with upcoming capital projects and the long-term capital improvement plan.
Rohr stressed that most of these accomplishments were realized under the constraints of the New York State-mandated two percent tax levy cap.
"Nobody does this work alone," Quattrone remarked. "As you gain perspective on it, you understand there is a whole network of support required to move from one place to another."
Quattrone indicated that he considers the district to be in a very good and positive place. "I'm eager to see the next steps," he said, "and sorry that I will be supporting you from afar."
The meeting also brought the tenures of trustees Adele Murray and Dr. Mary Giuffra to an end.
Murray has served the board of education on its finance committee, the audit committee, and the facilities advisory committee. She has worked as liaison to both the PTA and The Bronxville School Foundation.
"Adele has been very passionate and hard working," Rohr said. "She was always prepared, no matter how complex the issues we faced."
Rohr lauded Giuffra for the passion she has shown for the school's programs and activities and her devotion to The Bronxville Promise. "Nobody has attended more school functions, participated more with the students, or done more with the faculty," he said.
Giuffra served on the facility advisory committee, the Medicaid committee, and the strategy and curriculum committee. She chaired the special education committee, served as the special education liaison, and chaired the audit committee.
