Bronxville Field Club and Siwanoy Swimmers Compete at Conference and County Championships

Aug. 13, 2014: Summer swim teams from Siwanoy Country Club and Bronxville Field Club finished up the season at the conference and Westchester County championship meets held in the last week of July and the first week of August.

At the Westchester County Swim Conference Championship, Bronxville Field Club's Andrew Babyak finished first in the 14-and-under 100 yard freestyle and the BFC 8-and-under relay team (Ava Bruno, Kaela Schubert, Eliza Babyak, Julia Bazinet) took first in the 100 yard freestyle relay. Bronxville swimmers and divers had great success at conferences, and team members who finished in the top eight are listed below.

Out of 31 teams from public and private clubs across Southern Westchester County, BFC finished 11th and Siwanoy finished 18th.

Bronxville resident Rob Flannery has served as the conference meet director for the past twelve years and announced this summer that he would be stepping down. The Westchester County Swim Conference Board expressed their gratitude for his years of service. "Rob has poured his heart and soul into the effort and has made the experience a wonderful lifetime memory for countless competitors."

Flannery's commitment to swimming started when he was a child and continued as his children took up the sport.

"To direct a meet as prominent as the Westchester County Swim Conference Championships for the last 12 years has been a great honor and wonderful experience," said Flannery. "Swimming is a sport that I have loved since I was a child, and my work for the conference has allowed me to try and give back some of those happy memories, especially those of summer swimming. So many life lessons can be learned in a single meet or race; that hard work pays off, and that one should endeavor to be gracious in victory and defeat, chief among them. I like to think that my time spent as meet director has helped carry those life lessons forward to another generation of kids, all while they were having fun in the meantime."

At the Westchester County Swim Association Championships, an event that includes competitors who swim as members of a club, as well as individuals with no club affiliation, seven Bronxville swimmers or divers finished in the top eight: Zach Flangos, Max Hardart, Timothy Cushman, Andrew Babyak, Tim Buttigieg, Aidan Flannery, and Kelly Amar. College Racquet Club

Located in Bronxville, the College Racquet Club offers tennis programs for children and juniors age 5 to 15 as well as clinics for women. It is both an indoor and outdoor facility. They teach all different levels from beginner to tournament level players.
The Director of Tennis, Neil Tarangioli, is Head Coach of the Concordia College tennis team and has been recognized for many years as an outstanding player and coach, including being named Coach of the Year by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association in 1999-2000.

Lake Isle

Lake Isle is an Eastchester Town-owned facility that is open to all residents and a limited number of non residents. Town residents are defined as those people whose “permanent and primary domicile is located within Eastchester, Bronxville, or Tuckahoe. “ Along with five swimming pools and an 18-hole golf course, they have eight Har-Tru tennis courts. Fees for non-residents are higher than for residents.
