Bronco Athletes Participate in Preseason: Games Begin this Week

Sep. 3, 2014: A record number of junior varsity and varsity athletes turned out for Bronco preseason in August, and the students have been hard at work gearing up for the fall season. According to Coach Don Cupertino, there was a great turnout for girls' soccer, with 51 girls arriving for preseason practice. The numbers were also up for field hockey, girls' cross country, boys' soccer, and JV and varsity football.
The first team back from summer vacation was the football team, running captain's practice with sprints up Hawthorne Road. The soccer teams played in a tournament upstate, and several teams have already had scrimmages. To see photos of the Bronco preseason, click here: Bronco Sports Gallery.
The Bronxville athletic teams had an outstanding 2013-2014 season, and at the end of July, the New York State Sportswriters Association (NYSSWA) named the Bronxville Broncos the winner of the Kerr Cup All-Sport Championship for Class B schools. This award, named for Neil Kerr, a retired sportswriter who was the driving force behind NYSSWA for four decades, recognizes the best athletic programs in the state. Schools are ranked by the awarding of points to teams finishing in the top eight places in the New York State Public High School Athletic Association championship tournaments. This is the fourth straight year that Bronxville has had a number-one ranking in the state.
The Broncos are set to open another great season this fall. The field hockey season opened on Saturday with a 3-1 win over Pleasantville, and yesterday boys' soccer opened at home against Blind Brook.
This week's opening home games at Chambers Field are listed below:
9/3: Field Hockey vs Rye Neck, 4:30 pm
