Top Bronxville Sports Stories of 2014

Jan. 14, 2015: The year 2014 was a banner year for Bronxville athletes. Bronxville High School varsity teams and individual Bronxville competitors won section, state, and national titles in a wide range of sports. Below is a recap of the most widely read sports stories of 2014.
It is a major accomplishment for a high school to win one state championship, but in 2014, two Bronxville varsity teams finished on top. In the spring, the boys' lacrosse team defeated western New York's Cazenovia to capture its first state championship, and in the fall, the girls' soccer team won its second state championship with a 3-0 win over Port Jefferson. Bronxville Girls' Soccer Shuts Out Port Jefferson to Win the Class B State Championship
Many Bronxville teams won sectional championships in 2014, and several individual athletes exceled at the state level. Girls' and boys' lacrosse, boys' and girls' track and field, girls' cross country, girls' soccer, and field hockey all won their respective sectional titles. Bronxville Track Teams Shine at Sectionals; Next Up--Six Runners Go to Millrose Games
Individual Bronxville athletes competed at the national level in track, swimming, and squash.
At the Millrose games held in February, Bronxville High School senior Mary Cain won the Wanamaker Mile, and the Bronxville girls won the 4x800m high school relay. This past summer, Cain, who currently attends the University of Portland and runs for the Nike Oregon Project, set a world junior record in the 3000m at the IAAF World Junior Championships. Mary Cain on Top of the World with Win at IAAF World Junior Championships
Bronxville resident Patrick Conaton, a 2014 graduate of Fordham Prep, completed his high school swimming career as a fourteen-time All-American and a four-time scholastic All-American. Before heading to Stanford in late August, Conaton took first place in the 200m backstroke at the USA Swimming Junior National Championships. See the complete story below.

Bronxville athletes were also very competitive at the U.S. Junior Squash Championships held in Princeton, New Jersey, in March. Twelve Bronxville athletes qualified for the tournament. Ryan Murray finished first in the U15 division, Molly Stoltz (U11) placed second in the tournament, and Tyler Mackesy made it to the semifinals in the U13 division.
