Bronxville Boys' Lacrosse Defeats Powerhouse Garden City, 6-3

Apr. 15, 2015: En route to winning last year's New York State Championship in Class C, the Bronxville boys' lacrosse team established itself as a team that was willing to travel in order to play the most competitive teams. That trend is continuing this season. Last Wednesday, the destination was Long Island, as they took on perennial powerhouse Garden City. Senior captain and All-American Henry Grass led the Broncos with three goals and an assist, with additional scoring coming from R.J. Ambrose and Ara Atayan. The Broncos won the game 6-3, securing their number-one Class C ranking in New York State and continuing to draw national attention.
"The Garden City game was great," said Coach Tim Horgan. "It was a collective effort, from controlling the ball off the face-offs to offense/defense and the clearing game. It was a great win for the boys and for the program."
On Saturday, the Broncos headed to Philadelphia to play in the elite invitational Checking for Cancer tournament at the Haverford School. Matched up against the Salesianum School out of Delaware, the score was tied 8-8 at the half. Again, Grass dominated the scoring, accounting for six goals and an assist. Senior midfielder and attackman Ted Forst scored the other goal on an extra-man opportunity.
The game was a tale of two halves, though, as the much larger Salesianum team controlled the second half, holding Bronxville scoreless and ultimately winning 14-8.
"Defensively we gave up some goals this past weekend in situations that we should not have found ourselves in, and they are situations that are easily fixable," said Coach Horgan. "We need to be a little more consistent on the defensive end of the field, but that will come."
The Broncos (4-1) look to rebound with three home games this week: today at 5:00 pm against section rival Pleasantville, Thursday at 4:30 pm against Iona Prep, and Saturday at 3:00 pm against Greenwich. Saturday's lacrosse game is part of Bronco Fan Appreciation Day, which includes fundraising on behalf of St. Jude Hospital for Children.
Go Broncos.
