May 13, 2015: It is playoff season for the Bronco teams. Below is a look at how they fared last week and a preview of games and meets for the next week.
Boys' Lacrosse
The boys' lacrosse team finished the season with a 12-4 record after dropping the final game of the regular season to Fordham Prep. Several players were nursing injuries during the Fordham game, but the team should be back in full force when the playoffs start on Thursday. Bronxville was given the No. 2 seed just behind Pleasantville and will play Keio (5-10) in the first round of playoffs at home on Thursday at 3:45 pm. The quarterfinal round will take place on Saturday at the higher seed, and the semifinals will take place next Tuesday at the higher seed. The Class C Section 1 Championship game will be held on Thursday, May 21, at White Plains High School at 3:00 pm.
Boys' Baseball
The baseball team won two games last Saturday, defeating Palisades Prep 14-0 and Early College 9-3. Tyler Schultz leads the team with 19 hits, followed by Jack Braumuller with 17 and Matt Huncke with 16. Schultz and Huncke are the RBI leaders with 12 apiece, and Jack Redpath, Owen Balsiero, and Graham Klimley each have 10. The Broncos will finish up the regular season this week and head into playoffs next week.
Boys' Golf
Last week was an intense week for the golf team. The Broncos posted wins against Blind Brook, Ardsley, Byram Hills, John Jay Cross River, and John Jay Fishkill but yesterday dropped their first match of the season, losing by just two shots to Scarsdale. There are three matches left in the regular season, and the Broncos are poised to have a strong finish. Information about who qualifies for sectionals will be announced this Friday.
Track and Field
Both the boys' and girls' track and field teams won their respective league titles last week and will head to the Westchester County Championships on Sunday. At the Friendship Games held at Warwick High School on May 8, Kaitlin Ryan had a tremendous race in the 800m, finishing with a personal best time of 2:09.68. The 4x100m relay team (Margot Richards, Caroline DePaul, Alisa Fominykh, and Sophie Kohlhoff) had an impressive win (51.32) against very strong competition. On the boys' side, Sean Ryan took second place in the 1600m with a time of 4.38.36, and Nick Sutherland finished second in the 400m dash (51.47).
