Letter to the Mayor: Thank You for Your Update Regarding Enforcing Double Yellow Line Violations

Editor's Note: This letter is referencing Mayor Marvin's column in MyhometownBronxville.com on June 12, 2024 where she discusses the village's increased policing patrols in the business district to enforce crossing double yellow line violations.

Thank you to the Mayor for this most helpful update.
The crossing of double yellow in order to sneak into a parking spot on the other side of the street is out of control in our village. An rapidly growing number of residents find this conduct unacceptable, dangerous, highly disruptive and quite aggravating. Aside from this, the offender is forced into a time-consuming and additionally dangerous three-point turn, which, as witness I can add, is rarely executed with any degree of skill and efficiency.
I have to assume that a majority (perhaps vast majority) of offenders are not BXV residents (I'd like to assume that BVX residents tend to exercise greater respect for the law and greater empathy and consideration to their fellow residents (!?). The explanation as to why and how this policing business is not financially lucrative for the village (perhaps even not financially viable) is helpful, as a number of us have wondered this very question....wrongly assuming that a concerted crackdown by BVX village police might make the village a financial windfall. Alas, not the case (unfortunately).
Still, we residents appreciate this thorough briefing and appreciate Mayor Marvin and the Village Trustees being (super) sensitive to this chronis issue. We hope the current effort to bring back and preserve road manners is fruitful. NJS
Very Best regards,
Nicholas J. Sheumack
