Jul. 16, 2014: Richard J. Schineller, Sr., of Sarasota, formerly of Bronxville and Tuxedo Park, NY,
and Kinnelon, NJ, passed away on June 24, 2014. Born on August 6, 1934, he was 79 years old at the time of his death. He is survived by his wife, Eileen; sons, Rich, Bill, and Erik Schineller; daughters, Diane Sulimirski and Elena Matlack; and grandchildren, Sara, Maria, Max, Richard III, Mark, Erin, Drew, Amy, Will, and Cole.
Prior to his retirement in 1987, Richard served as chairman and chief executive officer of Decision Industries Corporation and chairman of the Computer and Communications Industry Association (CCIA). During his tenure at Decision, he increased revenue by over 472%, net income by 1,300%, and shareholder equity by over 1,000%. He moved the company to the New York Stock Exchange and increased institutional shareholding from 7% to over 31% while growing the company's client base from 3,700 to over 18,000 customers.
Schineller previously served as executive vice president of Management Assistance, Inc. (MAI), and as chairman of five of the company's wholly owned subsidiaries: Basic/Four, Wordstream, Sorbus, Vertex Systems, and Genesis One. He met or exceeded MAI's 25% annual revenue growth and 30% income growth objectives every year while retiring over $100 million in company debt.
Richard began his career with IBM as a data processing field manager. After having earned the rank of staff sergeant in the United States Air Force, he served under General Curtis E. LeMay in the Strategic Air Command.
A memorial service will be held at Sarasota National Cemetery on Friday, November 7, at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Richard's memory to Tidewell Hospice, 5955 Rand Boulevard, Sarasota, FL 34238.
