Dec. 3, 2014: Lewis Edward Wier of Fairfield, Connecticut, a devoted husband and father, passed away on November 28, 2014, at the age of 85.
He grew up in Toledo, Ohio, and graduated from Ohio State University in 1951. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the Air Force and was stationed in Denver and San Francisco. In 1952, he married Phyllis Verbryke, a fellow graduate of Ohio State. Their daughter, Sherrie, was born in 1955, and their son, Greg, was born in 1957.
Ed worked as an executive for Procter & Gamble, and the family lived in Mexico, Venezuela, Switzerland, and Spain for nine years before moving back to the US, to Bronxville, where Ed was president of the international division of Playtex.
After the children graduated from high school, Ed joined RJ Reynolds, and he and Phyllis moved to Geneva, Switzerland. He later joined Glendinning Associates and relocated to Fairfield, Connecticut, where he resided until his death.
He was an avid sports enthusiast and loved the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Connecticut Lady Huskies. He was an active member of the Greenfield Hill Congregational Church in Fairfield, Connecticut.
He was predeceased by his wife, Phyllis Wier, his parents, Harry and Helen Wier, and his brother, Mel Wier. He is survived by his two children, Sherrie Wier Howey of Scarsdale and Greg Wier of Mason, Ohio; his four grandchildren, Laura Howey, Katie Howey Taylor (Matt), Bradley Wier, and Cristina Wier; and his son-in-law, Bud Howey, and daughter-in-law, Sandra Wier.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2014, at 11:00 am at Greenfield Hill Congregational Church, 1045 Old Academy Road, in Fairfield, Connecticut.
