Dec. 2, 2015: Frances Gregg Petersmeyer, 93, former resident of Bronxville, died in Washington, DC, on November 10, 2015.
She was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, and grew up in Memphis, Tennessee, the eldest of four daughters of Irene Calhoun Gregg and Russell C. Gregg.
Frances graduated from Lausanne School in Memphis and from Sweet Briar College in Virginia. She worked for the Commercial Appeal newspaper in Memphis during the war, where she met and married Charles Wrede Petersmeyer, a captain in the Army who went on to become one of the pioneers in television broadcasting. They had been married for 52 years when he passed away in 1996.
Frances and Wrede lived in Bronxville from 1948 to 1989 and raised their three children there.
Frances loved to read and travel and was known for her wit and Southern charm. She was active in the Junior League and in Christ Church Bronxville, where in 1967 she was elected the first woman to the vestry. She was a member of Nondescript and the Bronxville Field Club.
She was predeceased by her husband and by her sisters, Nancy Gregg Lewis of Memphis and Emily Gregg of Fayetteville, Arkansas. She is survived by her children, Susan Petersmeyer of Camden, Maine, Gregg Petersmeyer and his wife, Julie, of Bethesda, Maryland, and Nancy Petersmeyer, MD, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and by eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Mary Gregg Loeb, of Eads, Tennessee.
A memorial service will be held in Washington, DC.
