May 27, 2020: Lorraine Newbrand Lange, lately of Ossining, NY, died of natural causes on May 7, 2020, in her 102nd year. She was born and raised in Yonkers, NY.  

Lorraine was married to Arthur Lange for 47 years before he passed in 1987. They raised their children Arthur, Jack, Pamela, and Edward in the Cedar Knolls section of Yonkers.  

A dedicated mother, she instilled in her children the work ethic and values she shared with her husband, Arthur. Lorraine was an avid traveler who enjoyed taking her grandchildren to experience the thrill of seeing new places. Actively involved in civic affairs, she was a reliable volunteer for the Girl Scouts, the PTA, NY Zoological Society, the ASPCA, and various conservation and local animal rights groups.

With her children off to college or serving in the military, Lorraine embarked upon a successful 30-year career in real estate sales and was for many years associated with the firm Houlihan Lawrence in Bronxville, NY.   

A long time member of the Bronxville Women’s Club, she also served as its President from 1969-1971. She was a longtime editor and contributor to The Villager, a Bronxville Women’s Club publication which chronicled the American community, and is on file in the Library of Congress. In 2015, she was honored as the Club’s Woman of the Year.

A member of the Reformed Church in Bronxville, she was an actress and administrator for the Seven Arts Society, a community theatre which produced 35 plays in 15 years. Lorraine was an active member and chapter officer in the National League of American Pen Women, a distinguished organization for women writers founded in 1897. She had a true passion for art and was especially known for her paintings on old barn siding. These paintings were sometimes sold to raise money for civic causes, or given as much appreciated gifts to family members. 

Lorraine was also passionate about flowers, and her award winning flower arrangements were a fixture in the Cedar Knolls colony for many years.

Lorraine lived a very full life and will be remembered always for her love of family, friends, animals, and a welcoming personality, traits that are missed by all that had the pleasure to know her. 

She is survived by her four children; thirteen grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; and two great, great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Muriel Resh. There will be a memorial celebration of her life planned for this Fall.
