Pet of the Week: Belinda

May 11, 2016: Belinda was sent to a local rescue group because her owners complained of allergies. It was immediately apparent that she was sweet and outgoing, but there was something more to this precious girl.
Volunteers noticed how she walked ever so slowly, often bumped into objects, and cautiously jumped down from the bed. Something was off, and when the owners were contacted, they said they forgot to mention that she has limited sight. After a visit to a veterinarian specializing in vision, it was confirmed that Belinda is completely blind.
What is most amazing about Belinda is that she has learned to compensate for her impairment with her other senses. Within a week of being in her foster home, she navigated it as if she had always lived there. She is incredibly smart and will look directly at you as if she can see you. She will amaze you with how accurately she can play with her toys. Belinda will even have you questioning if she is really blind; she is.
Belinda loves to cuddle and play and will be two years old this summer. There is no surgery, medication, or medical care that can restore her sight, but please do not let that deter you from giving her a chance. She has a full life ahead of her and is hoping for a gentle and understanding owner who doesn't like to rearrange the furniture. She would probably be best suited to a home with no other pets.
There are no expected costs associated with Belinda's condition. She is otherwise in excellent health, has been spayed, and is up to date with her vaccinations.
