Pet of the Week: Rubio

alt

By Allison Roesser

Nov. 29, 2017:  Until this June, Rubio was a happy family cat who played with his owner's children and grandchildren. Then somebody in the family developed allergies, and he was brought to Animal Care Centers of New York City.

He was rescued on the day he was scheduled to be euthanized. At first, Rubio truly suffered. Never had the volunteers seen a cat so unhappy in a cage. For weeks he sulked and snarled, totally unlike the friendly cat his previous family had described in his surrender notes. Some cats just do not adjust to cages, and Rubio was one of them.

When he finally moved to a foster home, the transformation was miraculous. Out of a cage and in a home and surrounded by love, Rubio became a different cat. According to his foster mom, "He has a great personality, and once he's warmed up to you, he's just the sweetest cat on the planet." He loves head and back rubs and follows his foster mother everywhere. He also gets along amicably with other cats.

Rubio badly needs a home of his own. He is a two-year-old orange-and-white domestic short hair. He is in good health, neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated, and he tested negative for FIV and FeLV.

He is currently in the care of Magnificat Cat Rescue. If you would like more information about Rubio, please email magnificatrescue2@gmail.com or visit http://magnificatrescue.org.
