Cancer Support Team to Host Gala on May 2 at NY Botanical Garden
Apr. 16, 2014: On Friday evening, May 2, Cancer Support Team will host its biennial gala, "An Enchanted Evening in the Garden," at The New York Botanical Garden.
Carol and Felix Petrillo of Mamaroneck will receive the Barbara Melamed Memorial Award for their extraordinary support of Cancer Support Team and other charitable organizations around Westchester County.
Corporate Angel Network in White Plains will receive the Wald-Lee Vision Award for its efforts to help cancer patients access the best possible treatment for their specific type of cancer by arranging free travel to treatment across the country using empty seats on corporate jets.
Longtime residents of Westchester County, the Petrillos have been involved in many philanthropic initiatives. Mr. Petrillo is the founder of Petro/MFM, a real estate development and construction company. Ms. Petrillo served as president of the parish council at St. Pius X Church, president of both Iona Grammar School and Iona Preparatory School, and president of The Ursuline School. As her three children grew older, Ms. Petrillo served on the boards of Sound Shore Medical Center, now Montefiore New Rochelle, and Cancer Support Team. Of their volunteer and philanthropic activities, the Petrillos said, "With prayful hands and hopeful hearts, we continue to fight for those in need."
Corporate Angel Network (CAN) is the only charitable organization to provide free air travel to cancer treatment sites across the country. According to CAN's director emeritus, Peter Fleiss, "Our work has such a positive effect on the lives of so many, patients and family members alike. Corporate Angel Network and the Cancer Support Team are both committed to the same thing--helping cancer patients fight their battle and getting them closer to their cure. This is why receiving the Wald-Lee Vision Award is so very special to us."
The benefit co-chairs are Joanne Jensen of Larchmont, Mark Rice of Rye, and Christina Staudt of Bronxville. Honorary co-chairs are Robin and James Coogan of New Rochelle.
Cancer Support Team, fully licensed by the New York State Department of Health and based in Purchase, NY, is a home care program that offers services--free of charge and without regard to insurance coverage--to residents of Southern Westchester living with cancer at any stage of the disease. Services include nursing care management, social work counseling, education, advocacy, provision of information about community resources, transportation, and financial assistance.
As a nonprofit charitable organization, financial support comes from individual donors and grants, the biennial gala, Swim Across America, The Community Fund of Bronxville, Eastchester and Tuckahoe, and other foundations and community groups.

Organized in 1982, the Bronxville Beautification Council (BBC) is a not-for-profit organization administered by a volunteer Board of Directors. Boulder Ledge Garden Club
Founded in 1966, the Boulder Ledge Garden Club is rooted in a mission to inspire a deeper appreciation and love for gardening and flower arranging. The club is dedicated to fostering and promoting interest and knowledge in gardening.
The Club maintains Bronxville’s Bicentennial Park and other civic gardens. In 2019–2020 the club raised $18,000 to replace trees in the village, reflecting its active role in community beautification. It also holds garden therapy projects and educational garden trips for members.

Bronxville Giving Garden
The Bronxville Giving Garden is a community-centered garden that donates organic produce to Eastchester Community Action Partnership in Tuckahoe and Community Service Associates in Mount Vernon. The garden is also a gathering place where school children and volunteers can discover the joy of tending plants and growing food.

The Bronxville Green Committee is a volunteer organization that is part of the Village of Bronxville. It proposes and implements environmentally sustainable programs in our community.
