One Love Foundation Film 'Escalation' Has Big Impact on Viewers and Organization Raises Money at SoulCycle

Oct. 15, 2014: The Bronxville community recently came together for two events to promote the One Love Foundation, an organization that honors the bright yet short life of Yeardley Reynolds Love. Its mission is to end relationship violence, which one in three women will experience in her lifetime.
In 2010, University of Virginia student Yeardley Love was beaten to death by her ex-boyfriend just weeks before her college graduation. Her story quickly reached the national stage and became the impetus for family and friends to save lives, and it gave rise to the One Love Foundation.
On Wednesday, October 1, One Love launched its new educational film, Escalation, at the Bronxville theater. Over 150 community members attended the screening and participated in a post-film discussion run by One Love Foundation CEO Katie Hood and One Love Foundation board member (and Yeardley Love's first cousin) Sharon Robinson.
Escalation had a profound effect on those who went to the screening. One viewer shared, "There are so many missed cues by the one in the abusive relationship as well as those on the periphery. Making all parties aware is the first step in changing this behavior."
Another viewer reacted: "Wow. It was beyond anything I expected. Get it out there and it will have life-changing effects."
Escalation is scheduled to be showcased at top universities throughout the fall and winter and will be evaluated by student and faculty focus groups.
As a follow-up to the screening, on Friday, October 10, Suzanne McCann and Nora Nazarro worked together with SoulCycle to initiate a successful ride for One Love. With every bike filled, participants raised over $8,000 for the foundation. After class, the group gathered in the SoulCycle lobby to enjoy delicious complimentary juices from Tuckahoe's Pure Food & Drink.
With renewed energy, the crowd headed to Pete's Tavern to continue the spirit of the evening where the proprietors, Lauren and John Lugano, generously donated proceeds of their visit to One Love.

Founded in 1966, the Boulder Ledge Garden Club is rooted in a mission to inspire a deeper appreciation and love for gardening and flower arranging. The club is dedicated to fostering and promoting interest and knowledge in gardening.
The Club maintains Bronxville’s Bicentennial Park and other civic gardens. In 2019–2020 the club raised $18,000 to replace trees in the village, reflecting its active role in community beautification. It also holds garden therapy projects and educational garden trips for members.

Bronxville Giving Garden
The Bronxville Giving Garden is a community-centered garden that donates organic produce to Eastchester Community Action Partnership in Tuckahoe and Community Service Associates in Mount Vernon. The garden is also a gathering place where school children and volunteers can discover the joy of tending plants and growing food.

The Bronxville Green Committee is a volunteer organization that is part of the Village of Bronxville. It proposes and implements environmentally sustainable programs in our community.

Bronxville Boy Scouts
