Junior League of Bronxville Distributes 800 Coats in Mount Vernon

Dec. 31, 2014: On Friday, December 12, The Junior League of Bronxville (JLB) culminated its holiday coat drive with a party and distribution of over 800 coats to men, women, and children in the Mount Vernon community. This annual event benefits participants in programs run by Community Service Associates (CSA) of Mount Vernon.
Adults and children alike received gently used coats and new hats and gloves from the JLB. JLB collected donations from the community at drop locations in Bronxville, Tuckahoe, Eastchester, Mount Vernon, and beyond from mid-November to mid-December.
This year, as in past years, the community was very generous, enabling the total to top 800 coats collected. In commenting on the success of the drive, Erica Sevilla, JLB president, said, "This year JLB volunteers collected an unprecedented number of coats. We are thankful to the community for their generous donations and to the local businesses who helped by allowing us to use their stores as coat collection points. I am pleased that we have again been able to outfit adults and children with warm winter coats. Every year our volunteers help families in need shop for a new coat at CSA, working with the families and children one-on-one is very gratifying for our volunteers."
The event is anticipated each year by the CSA community and highlights the holidays and the giving spirit of the season. "This year, in particular, is very special," said Roberta Apuzzo, executive director at CSA. "Sacred Heart Church will be closing in August of 2015. Community Service Associates has been providing vital services from the church to the community as one of the largest soup kitchens in lower Westchester. We will have to vacate and find a new home. Our challenges are great; however, we know that we will find a new location to serve the needs of those most at risk."
JLB would like to thank CubeSmart of Tuckahoe for its generous donation of a storage cubicle throughout the drive and the many civic, commercial, and retail partners that were collection points throughout the drive--Anne Hutchinson School, Bronxville Montessori School (Lower School), Early Childhood Center at Sarah Lawrence, Eliza Corwin Frost, Immaculate Conception School and Parish, Gramatan Court, Bronxville Library, Bronxville School, Starbucks-Tuckahoe, Eastchester Value Drugs, Bronxville Value Drugs, The Center Corporate Park, Purchase, NY, The Chapel School, the Reformed Church Nursery School, The Ursuline School, and The Windward School.

Organized in 1982, the Bronxville Beautification Council (BBC) is a not-for-profit organization administered by a volunteer Board of Directors. Boulder Ledge Garden Club
Founded in 1966, the Boulder Ledge Garden Club is rooted in a mission to inspire a deeper appreciation and love for gardening and flower arranging. The club is dedicated to fostering and promoting interest and knowledge in gardening.
The Club maintains Bronxville’s Bicentennial Park and other civic gardens. In 2019–2020 the club raised $18,000 to replace trees in the village, reflecting its active role in community beautification. It also holds garden therapy projects and educational garden trips for members.

Bronxville Giving Garden
The Bronxville Giving Garden is a community-centered garden that donates organic produce to Eastchester Community Action Partnership in Tuckahoe and Community Service Associates in Mount Vernon. The garden is also a gathering place where school children and volunteers can discover the joy of tending plants and growing food.

Bronxville Green Committee
The Bronxville Green Committee is a volunteer organization that is part of the Village of Bronxville. It proposes and implements environmentally sustainable programs in our community.

Bronxville Boy Scouts
The village of Bronxville has a long tradition of scouting. “The troops and packs of Bronxville have maintained the finest scouting organizations and have taught the boys of the Bronxville area to be leaders and outstanding members of the local, national and global communities.”
