Jansen Hospice Holds Annual Celebration of Lights Ceremony

Jan. 28, 2015: This past December, Jansen Hospice and Palliative Care welcomed family members with a personal connection to Jansen to its annual Celebration of Lights ceremony. It was an evening of remembrance and restoration for all those grieving the loss of loved ones.
The poignant nondenominational service was hosted by The Reformed Church of Bronxville and officiated by local clergy members, including Father Gus Badgley of Saint Joseph's Church in Bronxville, Nehemiah Luckett of Asbury Methodist Church in Crestwood, Reverend Cari Patterson of The Reformed Church of Bronxville, and Chaplain Suzanne Graham of Jansen Hospice in Scarsdale.
Mr. Luckett performed Jonathan Larson's "Seasons of Love," a song whose lyrics invite retrospection and call for the celebration of life.
Reverend Patterson extended comforting sentiments in a heartwarming homily that drew on her background as a hospital and nursing home chaplain, as well as her personal experience coping with death and loss. She referred to hospice care in a special way, calling it "a gift" that alleviates worry so friends and family can devote themselves to their loved ones and have "meaningful conversations" with them near the end of their lives.
Toward the end of her homily, Reverend Patterson said, "Though your husband, your wife, your mom, your dad, your grandparent, your co-worker, your friend, maybe even your child is no longer with you in bodily form, neither has their flame gone out, nor has their spirit." This idea was a perfect segue into the candle-lighting sequence in which family members lit candles in celebration of the people they loved and lost, with reassurance that their spirit would shine forth forevermore. It was a beautiful end to the night.
After the ceremony, family members mingled and enjoyed refreshments. The chatter among the crowd echoed feelings of thanks to Jansen Hospice for the exceptional care it offers patients and for continued bereavement services after an emotionally devastating loss.
It was a therapeutic experience for many who attended, and the night's theme of looking forward and celebrating life offered encouragement, hope, and healing.

Boulder Ledge Garden Club
Founded in 1966, the Boulder Ledge Garden Club is rooted in a mission to inspire a deeper appreciation and love for gardening and flower arranging. The club is dedicated to fostering and promoting interest and knowledge in gardening.
The Club maintains Bronxville’s Bicentennial Park and other civic gardens. In 2019–2020 the club raised $18,000 to replace trees in the village, reflecting its active role in community beautification. It also holds garden therapy projects and educational garden trips for members.

Bronxville Giving Garden
The Bronxville Giving Garden is a community-centered garden that donates organic produce to Eastchester Community Action Partnership in Tuckahoe and Community Service Associates in Mount Vernon. The garden is also a gathering place where school children and volunteers can discover the joy of tending plants and growing food.

The Bronxville Green Committee is a volunteer organization that is part of the Village of Bronxville. It proposes and implements environmentally sustainable programs in our community.

The village of Bronxville has a long tradition of scouting. “The troops and packs of Bronxville have maintained the finest scouting organizations and have taught the boys of the Bronxville area to be leaders and outstanding members of the local, national and global communities.”
