Sheila Landsberg Wins Senior Citizens Parking Raffle for Free Parking for One Year in Village

Jun. 3, 2015: The Senior Citizens Council just completed a month-long fundraising effort raffling a free parking space that was generously donated by the Village of Bronxville. The village has donated a space for well over 20 years, which has enabled the SCC board members and Bronxville Senior Citizens members to hit the street and sell raffle tickets for the month of May on Fridays and Saturdays.
Our congratulations to the lucky winner of this raffle, Sheila Landsberg. Sheila has been a steady supporter of the SCC's efforts in helping our senior neighbors for years.
The SCC is most grateful for the continued support of the Village of Bronxville, which has always been eager to help its senior residents. With oversight from the mayor to the police chief, and DPW staff right down to all working in village hall, if you are a local senior, you are always in safe and caring hands.
We are also grateful to local businesses--Studio One hair salon, Houlihan Lawrence, Citibank, and Topps Wine & Liquor--for providing us covered space where we could sit while selling raffles and also for storing our tables and chairs for weeks. Susan Miele, director of the Bronxville Chamber of Commerce, was also helpful spreading the word through her newsletter and email blasts.
The SCC is the parent organization that raises the funds for, and oversees the operations of, the Bronxville Senior Citizens and the Tuckahoe Senior Citizens. Over 500 seniors are served by the centers. Our mission is to help seniors avoid loneliness and isolation by providing programs run by our professional directors.
Thank you to all the caring local residents who support our seniors by mailing in their donations or buying raffle tickets from our board members and seniors. As you can see from the picture, the basket containing the tickets was filled to the tippy top. Cathy Hurley and Kathleen Winter, SCC board members and raffle co-chairs, did a fantastic job!

Bronxville Beautification Council
Organized in 1982, the Bronxville Beautification Council (BBC) is a not-for-profit organization administered by a volunteer Board of Directors. The mission of the BBC is to enhance and maintain the natural and man-made beauty of the village of Bronxville, with an emphasis on the downtown business district.

Boulder Ledge Garden Club
Founded in 1966, the Boulder Ledge Garden Club is rooted in a mission to inspire a deeper appreciation and love for gardening and flower arranging. The club is dedicated to fostering and promoting interest and knowledge in gardening.
The Club maintains Bronxville’s Bicentennial Park and other civic gardens. In 2019–2020 the club raised $18,000 to replace trees in the village, reflecting its active role in community beautification. It also holds garden therapy projects and educational garden trips for members.

Bronxville Giving Garden
The Bronxville Giving Garden is a community-centered garden that donates organic produce to Eastchester Community Action Partnership in Tuckahoe and Community Service Associates in Mount Vernon. The garden is also a gathering place where school children and volunteers can discover the joy of tending plants and growing food.

Bronxville Green Committee
The Bronxville Green Committee is a volunteer organization that is part of the Village of Bronxville. It proposes and implements environmentally sustainable programs in our community.

Bronxville Boy Scouts
The village of Bronxville has a long tradition of scouting. “The troops and packs of Bronxville have maintained the finest scouting organizations and have taught the boys of the Bronxville area to be leaders and outstanding members of the local, national and global communities.”

Bronxville Girls Scouts
The Girls Scouts is “the world’s preeminent organization dedicated solely to girls where, in an accepting and nurturing environment, girls build character and skills for success in the real world.” In Girl Scouts, “girls discover the fun, friendship and power of girls together.
