Nov. 3, 2020: Bronxville High School sophomore Brooke Kaye was recognized at the Westchester Coalition for Drug and Alcohol Free Youth and Student Assistance Services Corporation’s Leaders in the Limelight event on Oct. 27.
The live-streamed event celebrated 76 teen influencers from across 29 high schools throughout Westchester and Putnam counties for their efforts in promoting substance use prevention, emotional well-being, and healthy lifestyles.
“It is an honor for me to get recognized at the event because of how much work my group and I put into this,” Kaye said. “I hope members of the Westchester community realize how important relationships are in their families to make children safer.”
Over the summer, Kaye participated in the Westchester Coalition for Drug and Alcohol Free Youth Leadership Task Force along with other high school students from the region and adult facilitators. Through the program, she developed positive, peer-to-peer social media messaging campaigns that focused on making healthy choices around underage drinking and substance use.
“The most rewarding part was working with my group on connecting guardians and children,” said Kaye, who created the Together Tuesday’s campaign for Instagram and Facebook that encouraged guardians and their children to engage in conversation and participate in activities together.
