Nov. 28, 2018: The following entries are selections from the Bronxville police blotter.
November 14, 2018, 7:44 pm, Pondfield Road: Reckless Driver, unfounded.
November 15, 2018, 9:48 am, Kraft Avenue: An immobilization device was affixed to a parked vehicle after a license plate reader indicated to a police officer that it was on the village scofflaw list for $225 in outstanding parking tickets. The fines were satisfied, and the boot was removed.
November 15, 2018, 3:57 pm, Midland Avenue: There was a two-vehicle accident; there were no injuries, and an information exchange was completed.
November 15, 2018, 6:30 pm, Summit Avenue: The driver of a 2013 Isuzu lost control of his vehicle and struck a curb, damaging hedges belonging to a resident on Summit Avenue. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the accident is unknown. An accident report was completed by the responding officer.
November 16, 2018, 9:18 pm, The ByWay: A caller reported a loud group of youths traveling down The ByWay. The group was gone upon the officer’s arrival. No crime was committed.
November 17, 2018, 2:10 pm, Stone Place: A piggy bank was turned over to the police desk by a Good Samaritan. Anyone missing a similar item should contact Bronxville Police and provide a description to recover their property.
November 19, 2018, 3:41 pm, Pondfield Road: The owner of an establishment reported that an aggressive panhandler was inside her store demanding money and a turkey for Thanksgiving. The male fled the store when the owner called the police. Officers were unable to locate the subject. At 4:43 pm, officers responded to a call from St. Joseph’s Church, where the subject was acting similarly. Officers interviewed the 52-year-old male, who agreed to leave the area of his own accord.
November 21, 2018, 11:52 am, Pondfield Road: A 27-year-old of the Bronx was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the 3rd degree after he was stopped for operating a motor vehicle while using a cell phone and an inquiry revealed that his license was suspended for failing to pay summonses from other jurisdictions. The 2017 Chevrolet Suburban he was operating was impounded. The man was processed on scene and released pending his next court appearance on December 5 at 6:00 pm.

Bronxville is a quaint village (one square mile) located just 16 miles north of midtown Manhattan (roughly 30 minutes on the train) and has a population of approximately 6,500. It is known as a premier community with an excellent public school (K-12) and easy access to Manhattan. Bronxville offers many amenities including an attractive business district, a hospital (Lawrence Hospital), public paddle and tennis courts, fine dining at local restaurants, two private country clubs and a community library.
While the earliest settlers of Bronxville date back to the first half of the 18th century, the history of the modern suburb of Bronxville began in 1890 when William Van Duzer Lawrence purchased a farm and commissioned the architect, William A. Bates, to design a planned community of houses for well-known artists and professionals that became a thriving art colony. This community, now called Lawrence Park, is listed on the National register of Historic Places and many of the homes still have artists’ studios. A neighborhood association within Lawrence Park called “The Hilltop Association” keeps this heritage alive with art shows and other events for neighbors.
Bronxville offers many charming neighborhoods as well as a variety of living options for residents including single family homes, town houses, cooperatives and condominiums. One of the chief benefits of living in “the village” is that your children can attend the Bronxville School.
The Bronxville postal zone (10708, known as “Bronxville PO”) includes the village of Bronxville as well as the Chester Heights section of Eastchester, parts of Tuckahoe and the Lawrence Park West, Cedar Knolls, Armour Villa and Longvale sections of Yonkers. Many of these areas have their own distinct character. For instance, the Armour Villa section has many historic homes and even has its own newsletter called “The Villa Voice” which reports on neighborhood news.
