Bronxville Police Blotter: November 22 to December 2, 2018

Dec. 5, 2018: The following entries are selections from the Bronxville police blotter.
November 22, 2018, 4:09 am, White Plains Road: A vehicle struck a Con-Ed pole causing damage to a village-owned speed indicator machine. There were no injuries. An appearance ticket was issued for damage to village property.
November 22, 2018, 9:15 am, Pondfield Road: There was a building generator malfunction.
November 23, 2018, 9:27 am, Masterton Road: A leaking fire hydrant caused an icy condition. Police notified DPW, which brought salt to the area.
November 23, 2018, 11:52 pm, Crows Nest: Police responded to a 911 call reporting a loud group of youths in the area. The group was dispersed. No crime was committed.
November 25, 2018, 1:22 pm, Meadow Avenue: Officers responded to an activated burglar alarm at St. Joseph School. The employee who activated the alarm in error was interviewed on scene.
November 27, 2018, 11:00 am, Pondfield Road: A 27-year-old of White Plains was charged with burglary in the second degree for a burglary committed on July 2, 2018, on The ByWay. The arrest was the result of a DNA hit. The man was arraigned by Judge George Mayer and remanded to Westchester County Jail pending his next court appearance.
November 28, 2018, 7:23 pm, Pondfield Road: A 38-year-old man of Yonkers was charged with petit larceny. On October 24, 2018, the man did damage and stole a vehicle boot belonging to the Village of Bronxville. The incident was captured on village surveillance cameras. The man was processed and released on his own recognizance pending his next court appearance.
November 30, 2018, 7:41 am, Parkway Road: A boot was affixed to a vehicle because of $480 in outstanding parking fines. The fines were paid later in the day and the vehicle was released.
November 30, 2018, 4:18 pm, Park Place: A 50-year-old man of the Bronx was charged with criminal possession of a forged instrument in the 2nd degree, grand larceny in the 3rd degree, and forgery in the 1st degree after police responded to a 911 call of a fraud in progress. The man was processed and remanded to Westchester County Jail after failing to pay $3,000 bail.
November 30, 2018, 5:00 pm, Park Place: A found wallet was turned over to police; the owner was notified and picked up her property.
December 2, 2018, 12:38 pm, Plateau Circle: Pending Investigation.

Bronxville is a quaint village (one square mile) located just 16 miles north of midtown Manhattan (roughly 30 minutes on the train) and has a population of approximately 6,500. It is known as a premier community with an excellent public school (K-12) and easy access to Manhattan. Bronxville offers many amenities including an attractive business district, a hospital (Lawrence Hospital), public paddle and tennis courts, fine dining at local restaurants, two private country clubs and a community library.
While the earliest settlers of Bronxville date back to the first half of the 18th century, the history of the modern suburb of Bronxville began in 1890 when William Van Duzer Lawrence purchased a farm and commissioned the architect, William A. Bates, to design a planned community of houses for well-known artists and professionals that became a thriving art colony. This community, now called Lawrence Park, is listed on the National register of Historic Places and many of the homes still have artists’ studios. A neighborhood association within Lawrence Park called “The Hilltop Association” keeps this heritage alive with art shows and other events for neighbors.
Bronxville offers many charming neighborhoods as well as a variety of living options for residents including single family homes, town houses, cooperatives and condominiums. One of the chief benefits of living in “the village” is that your children can attend the Bronxville School.
The Bronxville postal zone (10708, known as “Bronxville PO”) includes the village of Bronxville as well as the Chester Heights section of Eastchester, parts of Tuckahoe and the Lawrence Park West, Cedar Knolls, Armour Villa and Longvale sections of Yonkers. Many of these areas have their own distinct character. For instance, the Armour Villa section has many historic homes and even has its own newsletter called “The Villa Voice” which reports on neighborhood news.
