Results of Bronxville School Board Election and Budget Vote

May 19, 2021: The Bronxville School Annual Board Election and Budget Vote took place Tuesday, May 18, 2021.

This was a contested election for the School Board with four candidates running for two open seats on the Board. The two NPC-endorsed candidates, Susan Conniff and Miki Kapoor, prevailed over their challengers Liam Heraty and Martin Palmeri respectively.

 

Susan Coniff and her family have been Bronxville residents since 2013.  She and her husband have two daughters at the Bronxville School (12th and 10th grades).  She graduated from UVA, has a Masters in Journalism from Columbia University and an MBA from UCLA. She has been involved in the PTA, Reformed Church Nursery School and Community Fund and is recognized for her thoughtful approach, diligence and integrity.  She is working for a nonprofit focused on increasing college access for low income first generation students. 

Miki Kapoor and his wife, Heidi, are the parents of three children (aged 9, 8, and 3) and Bronxville residents for almost eight years. He graduated from Washington University and received an MBA and MPH in Health Policy from Yale University.  He is an active member of the Bronxville community and has served on the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee of the Bronxville School, the Bronxville Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), and, along with several other Bronxville families, helped to organize the Unity Walk for Black Lives Matter in June 2020.  He has also served on several other for-profit and not-for-profit boards in the past.  He a healthcare operational executive.

The total votes cast included 949 machine ballots, 41 absentee ballots and 38 paper ballots.

For the seat held by Thomas R. Evans

Susan Conniff: 759

Liam Heraty: 206

Write-ins: 3

For the seat held by Jonathan Atkeson

Mike Kapoor: 619

Martin Palmeri: 318

Write-ins: 17

Also approved in the election were the following:

-The School's 2021-22 Budget of $50,618,988 with a vote of 706 "for" and 203 "against". 

-A proposition to authorize extending by ten years (to twenty years) the term of the "Capital Reserve Fund" with a vote of 792 "for" and 110 "against."
