Bronxville School PTA Announces Gala in April 2015 to Support Creation of Learning Commons

Written by Margaret Mager, PTA Benefit Public Relations

Nov. 19, 2014: The Bronxville School PTA is launching a community fundraising campaign to support the creation of a learning commons at The Bronxville School in the current middle school/high school library.

Reflecting the evolution of the library into a learning commons, the theme of the campaign is "The Next Chapter." The new space will incorporate greater use of technology and foster a more collaborative learning environment.

The focal point of the campaign will be a benefit gala to be held at Siwanoy Country Club in Bronxville on Saturday, April 18, 2015, at 7:00 pm. The benefit gala will bring together the school's community for a spectacular evening of dinner, dancing, and the opportunity to participate in live and silent auctions.

Following the completion of initial design plans by KG&D Architects, which were underwritten by the PTA, the Bronxville School PTA pledged $250,000 from its current balances in support of the learning commons project at the June 19, 2014, Bronxville Board of Education meeting.

Under the current design plan, the project includes a renovation of the library, the addition of air conditioning, the upgrade of electrical systems to support increased use of technology, and the purchase of new furnishings. The estimated total cost of the project is $800,000.

Jill Pytosh, PTA president, said, "The Bronxville School PTA is excited to back the learning commons project. The mission of the PTA is to support and enhance the educational and social experience of the students in The Bronxville School. This project aligns with the district's curriculum initiatives and builds on The Bronxville School Foundation's recent grants for the purchase of new technology at the school."

Dr. David Quattrone, superintendent of the Bronxville schools, said, "We are delighted that the Bronxville School PTA is supporting this project. By upgrading and modernizing our library, our students and teachers will have access to cutting-edge research tools in an environment that fosters collaborative learning."

The Bronxville School PTA is seeking sponsors for the benefit, as well as items for the live and silent auctions. Benefit chairs are Jill Pytosh and Lisa Rao. Tickets for the benefit will go on sale in March of 2015.
