86 Bronxville High School Seniors Receive Acceptances from 83 College and Universities

Written by Carol P. Bartold

Mar. 18, 2015: College acceptance season has begun for members of Bronxville High School's Class of 2015. Anne Abbatecola, director of counseling at the high school, reports that, to date, 86 seniors have reported acceptances from 83 colleges and universities in the United States, Canada, and Europe.

Ivy League institutions Dartmouth College, Princeton University, the University of Pennsylvania, and Yale University have notified students of acceptance. Prestigious public, private, liberal arts, and research universities and colleges from several regions have also extended acceptance to Bronxville High School seniors.

"Members of the Class of 2015 have pursued the post-high school search and application process through careful planning," Abbatecola said. "They have considered their individual interests, goals, and preferences."

Early Decision Colleges

Eighteen colleges and universities have offered early decision to seniors. They are Bates College; Binghamton University, State University of New York; Bucknell University; College of the Holy Cross; College of William & Mary; Dartmouth College; Denison University; Dickinson College; Dominican College; Franklin & Marshall College; Northeastern University; Northwestern University; Skidmore College; State University of New York Maritime College; University of Notre Dame; University of Pennsylvania; Vanderbilt University; and Washington and Lee University.

Students apply for early decision early in the fall and receive notification of their status usually within four to six weeks of submitting their applications. In applying for early decision, students commit to attend the college, if accepted. Not all schools have an early decision plan.

Early Action and Restrictive Early Action Colleges

Forty-one institutions have notified seniors of early action and restrictive early action plan acceptances. They are Catholic College of Charleston; Drexel University; Elon University; Emerson College; Fairfield University; Florida State University; Fordham University; George Mason University; Georgetown University; High Point University; Indiana University Bloomington; Iona College; James Madison University; The Johns Hopkins University; Loyola University Maryland; Miami University, Oxford, Ohio; Michigan State University; Princeton University; Purdue University; Roanoke College; Roger Williams University; Siena College; Southern Methodist University; St. Michael's College; State University of New York at Cortland; State University of New York at New Paltz; State University of New York at Oneonta; Tulane University; University at Albany, State University of New York; University of Colorado Boulder; University of Denver; University of Maine; University of Maryland; University of Mississippi; University of North Carolina at Asheville; University of North Carolina at Wilmington; University of Vermont; University of Virginia; University of Wisconsin; Villanova University; and Yale University.

Students apply for early action early in the fall and receive notification of their status usually within four to six weeks of submitting their applications. Students are not committed to attending, and they have until May 1 to respond. Students applying under restrictive early action also submit their applications early and receive an early response, but they may submit an early application to only one school and may not submit an application to an early decision school; they have until May 1 to respond. Not all schools have an early action or restrictive early action plan.

Rolling Admission and Regular Decision Colleges

Seniors have received rolling admission and regular decision acceptances from twenty-seven colleges and universities. They are Babson College; Bernard M. Baruch College; Bates College; Canisius College; College of Charleston; Curry College; Drexel University; Lehman College; Marymount Manhattan College; The Pennsylvania State University; Quinnipiac University; Salisbury University; Seton Hall University; State University of New York at Buffalo; State University of New York at Oswego; State University of New York at Stony Brook; Texas A&M University; Towson University; University at Albany, State University of New York; University of Edinburgh; University of Hartford; University of Michigan; University of Minnesota-Twin Cities; University of St. Andrews; University of Tennessee; University of Toronto; and University of Windsor.

Rolling admission offers students a non-binding program through which they can apply at any time and receive a decision within a short period of time, and they usually have until May 1 to respond. Rolling admission programs do not have specific application deadlines or notification dates. Not all schools have rolling admission.

With regular decision, deadlines vary, but typically students must submit applications by January 1, colleges must send notices to students by April 1, and students must make their decisions by May 1.

"Notifications and results are far from complete," Abbatecola noted. She added that all remaining colleges will soon notify students of their status, with May 1 as the universal response date.

"We wish the seniors much success in their future endeavors," Abbatecola added.
