May 19, 2021: J. Mackey Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of an exhibition space at 62 The Circle in East Hampton, New York. The newly renovated 1,010-square-foot art space in the center of East Hampton Village will show emerging, as well as established, artists including work by Bronxville artists. The gallery’s mission is to foster the impact art has to aesthetically enhance spaces, provoke thought and stimulate the senses.
After many years of working as a gallerist, including at OSilas Gallery in Bronxville, and with extensive experience in design and archival work, J. Mackey Owner Justine McEnerney, who also resides in Bronxville, brings her knowledge, expertise and love of art to this new venture. She is excited to introduce new artists to East Hampton and to reintroduce established artists to a new generation. “The concept for J. Mackey gallery came from my belief that art should be accessible, provocative and enriching,” said McEnerney. “An artist's hand and intentions assert a power which leaves a lasting impact and that is something I want everyone to experience.”
The gallery opens on May 27 with the group show “The Deep End of Peace,“ which reflects on the ways light and color contribute to both calm and a renewed awakening of the senses. The exhibition will include works by Bronxville abstract artist Lyndal Vermette, sculptor Phyllis Baker Hammond, whose work has been displayed at the United Nations Plaza in NYC as well as numerous public art commissions, Oxford Mississippi artist and a member of the Charleston Artist Collective Emily Brown, and New Rochelle artist Don Swanson, who worked as Chief of Preservation and Graphic Designer at The Frick Collection. Swanson will also have a solo show at the gallery of his most recent work.
Forthcoming solo and group exhibitions will include works by Bronxville mixed media artist Stephen Hawkey, Korean potter Heyja Do, abstract painter Eliza Geddes and painter Cynthia Hartling, living in Santa Fe.
The space is also a new East Hampton location for NJ Caine Architecture, a leading residential architectural design practice in Manhattan headed by Bronxville resident Neal Stufano AIA, principal and founder. NJ Caine Architecture is known for creating iconic spaces and innovative residences in NYC, the Hamptons, Greenwich, Connecticut, and Palm Beach, Florida.
The gallery will be open to the public Tuesday to Sunday from 10:30am – 6:00pm, and by appointment. The health and safety of visitors remains paramount, and protocols to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 will be implemented. A mask is required for entry, and hand sanitizer will be provided. For more information or to schedule an appointment, please visit our website jmackeygallery.com or contact Justine McEnerney at 917-592-8568.
