Jun. 27, 2018:  The entries below are selections from the Bronxville police blotter.

June 18, 1:30 pm, Oriole Avenue: A homeowner reported that two males were knocking on her back door, claiming to be Electrolux vacuum repairmen. Police responded and interviewed the men, who were employees of a repair shop located in Yonkers. The homeowner does not own an Electrolux vacuum, but she did receive a telephone call from the company prior to their arrival. No crime was committed.

June 18, 4:38 pm, Garden Avenue: There was a two-vehicle vehicle accident. There were no injuries, and an information exchange was completed by the responding officer. 

June 18, 11:19 am, Studio Arcade: A 75-year-old man from the Bronx was charged with Attempted Sexual Abuse in the 3rd Degree and Harassment in the 2nd Degree. He was processed and released pending his next court appearance.

June 20, 12:34 pm, CVS, Pondfield Road: A 19-year-old male was charged with Petit Larceny for stealing four Power Bank Phone Chargers valued at $100.86. The male was processed and arraigned by Judge George Mayer, who remanded him to Westchester County Jail after failing to post $500 bail.

June 20, 6:58 pm, Bronxville Justice Court: A court officer requested assistance removing an unruly male who was reportedly causing a disturbance in the courtroom. The male was escorted from the building. No crime was committed.

June 21, 10:21 pm: Police officers responded to a quelled verbal disagreement between family members.  No crime was committed. A domestic incident report was completed. 

June 23, 10:19 am, Midland Avenue: A 29-year-old man from New York City was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle in the 2nd Degree (misdemeanor) after he was stopped for operating with inadequate brake lights. He was processed and released on his own recognizance pending his next court appearance

June 24, 9:11 pm: A woman turned a wallet into the police department. Police were able to locate the owner and return it to her intact.   

June 25, 12:30 pm: A resident reported that fraudulent credit cards were opened in her name and that approximately $30,000 in charges were accrued.

Bronxville Overview

Bronxville is a quaint village (one square mile) located just 16 miles north of midtown Manhattan (roughly 30 minutes on the train) and has a population of approximately 6,500. It is known as a premier community with an excellent public school (K-12) and easy access to Manhattan. Bronxville offers many amenities including an attractive business district, a hospital (Lawrence Hospital), public paddle and tennis courts, fine dining at local restaurants, two private country clubs and a community library.

While the earliest settlers of Bronxville date back to the first half of the 18th century, the history of the modern suburb of Bronxville began in 1890 when William Van Duzer Lawrence purchased a farm and commissioned the architect, William A. Bates, to design a planned community of houses for well-known artists and professionals that became a thriving art colony. This community, now called Lawrence Park, is listed on the National register of Historic Places and many of the homes still have artists’ studios. A neighborhood association within Lawrence Park called “The Hilltop Association” keeps this heritage alive with art shows and other events for neighbors.

Bronxville offers many charming neighborhoods as well as a variety of living options for residents including single family homes, town houses, cooperatives and condominiums. One of the chief benefits of living in “the village” is that your children can attend the Bronxville School.

The Bronxville postal zone (10708, known as “Bronxville PO”) includes the village of Bronxville as well as the Chester Heights section of Eastchester, parts of Tuckahoe and the Lawrence Park West, Cedar Knolls, Armour Villa and Longvale sections of Yonkers. Many of these areas have their own distinct character. For instance, the Armour Villa section has many historic homes and even has its own newsletter called “The Villa Voice” which reports on neighborhood news.
