Oct. 28, 2015: Approximately 1,400 people convened at the Immaculate Conception School field in Tuckahoe for the Junior League of Bronxville's (JLB) sixth annual Touch-A-Truck event, which was held on September 26. The fundraising event raised a new record high of over $18,000, which will be used to support the JLB's vision to fight hunger and promote proper nutrition within its service area of Bronxville, Eastchester, Mount Vernon, Tuckahoe, and Yonkers.
New to the event this year was the "Curto's Canned-Goods Challenge," sponsored by Curto's Appliances. The JLB collected 501 canned goods at Touch-A-Truck, and Curto's Appliances matched $1 for each item, up to $500, and will be making a donation to the JLB in recognition of its voluntarism in the community.
Children enjoyed the festivities as they got to climb inside an ambulance, sit in the driver's seat of a school bus, walk through an empty moving truck, and even go inside a helicopter, as well as explore other vehicles. Entertainment was provided throughout the day by Gymboree Play & Music of Scarsdale, Songs for Seeds of Scarsdale, Musical Munchkins, and The Nature of Things. Notable guests at the event included Lisa Salvadorini of News 12 Westchester.
Sheridan Denfeld, JLB president, said, "The JLB is exceptionally grateful for the generous and continued support provided by our Harvester of Hope Sponsors, Curto's Appliances, Julia B. Fee/Sotheby's International Realty, K. Salkey Photography, PCT Contracting, People's United Bank, and Pepe Auto Group. Their assistance allows the JLB to fulfill our vision of stamping out hunger in Southern Westchester."
Additionally, the JLB would like to thank all vendors and exhibitors for participating in Touch-A-Truck this year and would like to give special thanks to PCT Contracting, which powered the event; brought vehicles including a dump truck, a flatbed tow truck, and a gator vehicle; and provided a monster truck bounce house, cotton candy, and t-shirts for the kids!
"We are proud to host an event that has become a tradition for so many families," said Michelle Schoulder, JLB fundraising vice president. "It truly highlights the best of our community, from the generosity of the parish of Immaculate Conception and Assumption of Our Lady to the support of our sponsors and exhibitors that contribute to making the event a special day for all that join us. Ultimately, the event would not be the success that it is without the passion of our JLB members who volunteer their talents and time."
