Letter to the Community In Support of Bill Fredericks and Vanessa O'Friel for Trustees in Bronxville Village Election

To the Bronxville Community,

The Bronxville Democratic Committee is asking Village residents to vote for William Fredericks and Vanessa O’Friel for Trustee in the Village election on March 18.  The election is for two Trustees, each to serve a two-year term.  We are confident that William and Vanessa will bring the right combination of experience and fresh perspective to the Board.

William has served on the Board since 2020 and has been a dedicated Board member.  Before his election as a Village Trustee he served on the Zoning Board from 2009 to 2020, which he also chaired from 2013 to 2020.  William is a strong proponent for a safe, walkable Village and was instrumental in delivering the Route 22 crosswalk in late 2023. He has a particular expertise in land use and has supported the Green Committee’s efforts to limit the use of gas-powered leaf blowers along with other environmental improvements. He has worked successfully with other Trustees on various issues such as enacting the 25mph speed limit on Village streets and conducting a review of the Village’s zoning laws. William is also a Trustee of the Bronxville Historical Conservancy.

Vanessa has extensive experience in Village and Bronxville School organizations.  She is the President of the Bronxville Chamber of Commerce and co-owner of Prep Academy Tutors in the Village. She has insight into the needs of the local business community as well as the Bronxville School and has volunteered on the PTA. Two of her children currently attend the Bronxville School and her two older boys are now in college. She has been a member of the Non-Partisan Committee, and actively involved with the Junior League and the Friends of the Bronxville Public Library.  For the past five years, Vanessa has been an evaluator for the Community Fund.  She is a member of the Board of Governors of the Bronxville Field Club.  Vanessa will bring her commitment to public service, organizational and leadership skills, and great knowledge of the Bronxville community to the Board.

William and Vanessa are running on the Democratic Party line. Last November continued a trend of the last two decades – a large majority of our Village supports the competence and values represented by the Democratic Party. It’s time our Board represents our Village. William and Vanessa are also running on the Bronxville Now line.

Please join us in voting for both William Fredericks and Vanessa O’Friel on Tuesday, March 18.

Bronxville Overview

Bronxville is a quaint village (one square mile) located just 16 miles north of midtown Manhattan (roughly 30 minutes on the train) and has a population of approximately 6,500. It is known as a premier community with an excellent public school (K-12) and easy access to Manhattan. Bronxville offers many amenities including an attractive business district, a hospital (Lawrence Hospital), public paddle and tennis courts, fine dining at local restaurants, two private country clubs and a community library.

While the earliest settlers of Bronxville date back to the first half of the 18th century, the history of the modern suburb of Bronxville began in 1890 when William Van Duzer Lawrence purchased a farm and commissioned the architect, William A. Bates, to design a planned community of houses for well-known artists and professionals that became a thriving art colony. This community, now called Lawrence Park, is listed on the National register of Historic Places and many of the homes still have artists’ studios. A neighborhood association within Lawrence Park called “The Hilltop Association” keeps this heritage alive with art shows and other events for neighbors.

Bronxville offers many charming neighborhoods as well as a variety of living options for residents including single family homes, town houses, cooperatives and condominiums. One of the chief benefits of living in “the village” is that your children can attend the Bronxville School.

The Bronxville postal zone (10708, known as “Bronxville PO”) includes the village of Bronxville as well as the Chester Heights section of Eastchester, parts of Tuckahoe and the Lawrence Park West, Cedar Knolls, Armour Villa and Longvale sections of Yonkers. Many of these areas have their own distinct character. For instance, the Armour Villa section has many historic homes and even has its own newsletter called “The Villa Voice” which reports on neighborhood news.
