Letter to the Editor: Mary Liz Mulligan on Winner of Senior Citizens Council Parking Raffle

To the Editor:
Jun. 8, 2016: This year's lucky winner of the Senior Citizens Council parking raffle is Jennifer Vetromile, who is near and dear to the Senior Citizens Council (SCC).
Jennifer is the director of our Tuckahoe Senior Citizens and a Bronxville resident. It is evident how much the SCC's board members and employees support all the fundraising efforts. Last year, board member Sheila Landsberg was the winner.
Right about now, I'm sure you are all scratching your heads and rolling your eyes. Trust me, every year for as long as I can remember, the mayor of Bronxville has always pulled the winning ticket. And we all know Mary Marvin is beyond honest! In fact, we always ask the mayor to pull four tickets in case, for some reason, the person listed on the first ticket pulled does not want the space but was just showing support of our senior neighbors by purchasing a ticket or tickets.
This year, the mayor pulled her own ticket as #2 and she doesn't even drive! A big thanks to the Village of Bronxville for the free parking space.
The SCC is extremely grateful for the support we have received this year from all who have participated in our annual appeal letter, parking space raffle, and our 45th anniversary brunch. Also a big thanks to The Community Fund, the Villages of Tuckahoe and Bronxville, and the private foundations that have been kind enough to send grants.
The kindness shown by the Parish of the Immaculate Conception, the Church of the Assumption, and The Reformed Church of Bronxville for providing homes for our centers cannot be measured.
As a result of this support, we have been able to provide excellent professional directors for the centers in Tuckahoe and Bronxville, which serve over 500 local seniors with top-notch programing and, more important, help alleviate loneliness and isolation by providing a meeting place for all to gather.
Our efforts would not be possible without the kindness of the merchants and businesses in Tuckahoe and Bronxville for their support of all our senior endeavors.
A special thanks to Studio One Hair Design, Bronxville Wine & Spirits, Houlihan Lawrence, and Citibank for allowing us to sell our tickets on the street in May and for housing our tables and chairs.
Mary Liz Mulligan
Administrator, Senior Citizens Council
