Bronxville High School Student-Athletes from the Class of 2016 Commit to Play in College

By S. Quinn DeJoy and J. Murrer

Dec. 2, 2015: Three Bronxville student-athletes gathered in the high school library on November 12 to sign their respective National Letters of Intent, agreements that demonstrate a student's commitment to participate in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) athletics. Lacrosse players Jack Gelinas and Lilly Grass committed to Bucknell University and the University of Michigan, respectively, and golfer Connor Daly signed with Villanova. Also present at the signing was Andrew Harwood, Bronco lacrosse goalie, who will play for Division III Colorado College next fall.

Jack Gelinas, who was recruited during his sophomore year, had to make a choice between Villanova, his father's alma mater, and Bucknell.

"It came down to Villanova and Bucknell," explained Gelinas. "I just preferred Bucknell a lot more, and I love the message the coaches have. They want us to have a balance of social life, academics, and athletics. It will be a great place to have a great college experience."

Gelinas, who has been on the varsity team since his freshman year, helped lead the Broncos to a state championship in 2014. He was also a captain of the Bronxville football team this past fall.

Lilly Grass has been on the Bronxville varsity lacrosse team since freshman year and has received All-League and All-Section recognition twice. She was named All-American last year and is looking forward to playing for the Wolverines.

"The University of Michigan has the perfect balance between challenging academics and highly competitive athletics. I couldn't be more excited to continue my lacrosse career at Michigan and represent Team 4." Team 4 is the fourth recruiting class for the women's lacrosse team at Michigan. This coming spring, the Wolverines will be playing only their third season in the Big Ten Conference. The Big Ten held its first women's lacrosse championship in 2015.

Connor Daly, two-year captain of the golf team, has been playing exceptionally well this year. In the spring, he helped the Broncos win the sectional championship for the first time in school history, and he was awarded All-League and All-Section recognition. He is a two-time qualifier for the New York State Championships, and in 2015 he finished 21st in a field of over 100 golfers. This past summer, Daly won the Northern Junior Championship in New Haven, Connecticut, and qualified for the 68th U.S. Junior Amateur Championships in Bluffton, South Carolina. Daly will be busy next year as the Wildcats play in both the fall and the spring. Villanova competes in the Big East Conference.

Go Broncos.
