Dec. 11, 2024: Susan Sargent passed away peacefully on November 28, 2024 after a long and difficult bout with Frontotemporal Degeneration (FTD). S
Susan was born on November 30, 1950 to John and Mary Sargent. Susan attended Bronxville High School and earned her bachelor's degree from Smith College in 1972. Susan went on to receive her Masters of Business Administration from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania where she concentrated in healthcare finance and administration.
It was through this program that she met her beloved husband, Mitchell Goldman, and together they started their healthcare consulting business, GLS Associates. After the successful acquisition of GLS Associates by Chi Systems, Susan went on to serve as Vice President of Advisory Services at Array Healthcare Facilities Solutions (a full service architecture firm), and then decided to build her own consulting firm, Sargent Healthcare Management Advisors.
Susan was a nationally recognized leader in expanding the health insurance coverage for behavioral health services working with many of the nation’s leading hospital systems and advising many of the state and federal policy leaders. She was a prolific writer on behavioral health care issues, and an expert witness on developing state legislation to expand insurance coverage for mental health. Susan was an active board member and officer of the Wharton Healthcare Management Alumni Club.
When not working, Susan enjoyed nothing more than spending time with her family at their home in Quogue, New York, traveling to visit her grandchildren in Oakland, California for Halloween, and regular weekend visits with her grandchildren in Manhattan. She loved a good pun, a crossword puzzle, scrabble, a Louis Black stand-up comedy routine, and Philadelphia sports.
Among many other things, Susan will be remembered for her sense of humor, her ability to do it all, and her endless patience and love for her family.
She is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, C. Mitchell Goldman, her daughter Jenna Goldman, Jenna’s husband, Justin Manus, their sons Graham and Eli Manus; her son, Andrew Goldman, his wife Renee Goldman, and their sons Jacob and Jonah Goldman; her brother, Michael Sargent and his wife, Lisa Sargent, her brother, John Sargent, and his wife, Lynn Sargent, and her sister, Elizabeth “Betsy” Grogan.
A memorial service for Susan will be held in the spring.
